OSU-COM Discussion thread 2007-2008

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
No posts today. booo👎

So, what's up OSU-COMers? Any good news this week (even if it's not pre-med related)?

I have bad news...physics II exam tomorrow! AHH!:scared:

take home organic chem test this week, staying really busy.

Nothing new unfortunately.. Human dissection and Biochem are keeping me more than busy. Not to mention I'm a Co-Director of a Free health clinic that our university runs. To the best of my knowledge it is the only undergrad clinic in the nation, so that adds some stuff to my schedule daily..
I'll feel better as soon as someone posts that they got a call from OSU...

if someone posts that they heard from osu, I will probably have a heart attack. I want to be the first to make that post after that I will have another heart attack if someone posts they were accepted, I want to be the first.

Now I am prepared if this doesn't happen, I keep asprin handy and our school has a defib. Remember I have a wife and kids so keep them in mind when you post about acceptance:scared: .

Anxiously waiting

Finally...some good news! I made a 96% on my physics II exam...yay...now I can breathe.

Oh wait, no I can't, because I have an Org. II exam on FRIDAY! AHHH:scared:

I contacted them around a month ago, and they said october/november for first round interviews. I'm not in such a big hurry that I cannot wait a couple of weeks. However if I haven't heard from them by the end of next week, I will give them a call to see how things are going.

It's not that I can't wait... If by the luck of God I'm accepted to KCUMB I have to send in 1000$ as a deposit. I interview there on the 22nd of Oct. So if OSU doesn't hurry up I could be jammed up. I would probably forfeit the 1000$ to go to OSU, but I really don't want to...

Congrats Almo... That was my last semester during the MCAT study.. I had Orgo II, Phys II, Genetics, and then MCAT review.. it wasn't much fun.. 😉

It's not fun AT ALL! I'm taking an MCAT review course next semester (along with Physiology and Microbiology). FUN STUFF 😉

Good luck with your interview!! I hope all goes well! Keep us posted.

Oh yeah, and where has myo gone? I haven't seen that girl on here in a week! MYOFIBRO, WHERE ARE YOU?😕

I AM HERE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Don't worry!!!!!!
Man, I am getting anxious!!!!! I am meeting one of my friends at the bar later and I have compiled all of the possible OSU questions from the interview section on here and we are going to practice those back and forth. Hopefully, I will be able to see what comes to my mind first when I hear those things. I already know what I need to brush up on but it should be a good experience. I feel the same way about hearing that someone got an interview or acceptance!! LOL! As long as I get an interview before January, I will be happy!!!!
My Instrumental Analysis and Experimental Biochemistry Labs make me wanna shoot myself!! LOL! Other than that, I am good!!

Mock interviews can be fun; however, biochem isn't! At least, that's what I've heard. I'm currently studying for my Org. II exam tomorrow...🙁

Grey's Anatomy was freakin' awesome tonight! I've missed it!

I hope you have fun at your little interview session. haha. HAVE A GREAT WEEKEND!

Biochem II is the most fun class I've ever taken. Seriously.

It was because of the prof though. He was great. It was also the most challenging class I've ever taken, but he really made you think on the exams.

I am really interested in OSU too but I am OOS. I would love to end up in Tulsa. Good luck to everyone else applying there!!!

Hey Myo where did you find those interview Q's for OSU???

Oh man!! Those are a GOLD mine!!!! You are obviously on the FORUMS section of SDN but at the top, click on the INTERVIEWS tab, click American Medical Schools (MD and DO) and scrool down to OSU COM. They have interview questions from like four or five years back. I compiled all the questions from the past two interview years and I can honestly pile them into variations of about six questions...it is really neat to see the patterns evolve!! Let me know if you have any problems finding them!!!
I am going to Tulsa next Friday to see the school for the first time...my buddy who started there is August is giving me a tour! I'm so excited!!!!!

Awesome.. thanks alot... hope the trip goes well..

I went this summer and took the official tour through the admissions office. It was great. The tour was given by a second year student that was very friendly, and I learned a ton. Ask plenty of questions, they will answer them all. One thing I noticed was how close nit of a group they seemed. The trip reinforced my belief that OSU was the place for me.

I'm posting this for my Husband (harleyman). He's a pgy2 at OSU's Family Medicine Program and if you want to PM him with questions about OSU he would be happy to help. He went to OSU med school and has a little insight on the school and the people that work there. He turned down other schools to come here and he absolutely loves it. This is a second career for him so he had to be sure before he moved everyone here. No regrets.

Mrs. Harleyman👍

P.S. His email is [email protected]

Thanks a LOT for that, Mr. & Mrs. Harleyman!

HUH??? What does that mean?

Because of all the "Interview Discussion" Threads, we were moved to page two! 👎

And the other part, I just wanted to say thank you for your generosity. I really appreciate it, harleyman!

Congrats, are you OOS?

No last year I transferred all of my mail, Driver's license, etc.. to an appartment in Claremore, Ok with a cousin of mine. I also registered to vote and have voted just to make sure there were no questions asked about residency... I knew from the get go that I wanted to go to OSU so I tried to plan as far ahead as possible..

CONGRATS!!!

I hope myo got a call! GOOD LUCK EVERYONE!!!!

HAHA No, not yet!!!!!! It's ok, though....I TRULY believe it is coming because I want it and feel I deserve it SO BAD!! If not, there is always next year but OSU is VERY good about getting everyone interviews that has at or above the requirements that are residents.....as long as I have an interview before January, I will be excited because my application was complete Aug. 30th and they recieved my MCAT scores on 9-23. I'm REALLY excited for you getting that interview!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I know how bad you want it and you HAVE to tell me EVERYTHING about it when you get back!!!!!!
You do know that is the FIRST round first????? You're chances of acceptance are pretty much amazin'!!!! Good for you buddy!!!!
Man, I am getting so anxious!!! I am going to Tulsa friday though to look around! I can't wait!!!!!

good luck with the interview, congratulations on getting a first round. What's your stats?

Thanks everyone. I'm sure we will be rocking out at OSU together Myo...

3.6 Cum. Gpa
3.6 Sci
26O MCAT

Co-Director for a free health clinic my university runs (only one in the country run entirely by undergrads I believe)
Registered Radiographic Technologist.

I really believe my experience(s) are what has helped me the most in my apps as my stats aren't anything special...

Yeah, that experience is pretty much amazing!!! Your MCAT and GPA are awesome as well. The only 'experience' like that I have is hospital volunteer for like 100 hours.....most of my experience is research unfortunately because I don't think OSU-COM cares that much about research. I gotta tell ya, I'm freakin' JEALOUS!! HAHA But in a good way!!!!!! 😉 But now I know they are actually inviting people, I keep my phone on me EVERYWHERE!

Indeed your exp is pretty darn good, and your stats aren't anything to be ashamed of. 👍

I have my wife forwarding our phone when she leaves to go anywhere now.

I too got the phone call... and will be interviewing on Thursday the 25th.

I'm instate with a 4.0 and 33R - I like OSU as an instate option, should I choose to stay within the sooner state.
(Oh, and I also fit OSU-COMs guaranteed admissions criteria.)

Guaranteed admission criteria?? I never knew there was such a thing! I knew that some things give you a REALLY good shot but I didn't know you could be GUARANTEED admission. Is that like being the dean of admissions son or something?? LOL
Of course you would be in the first round with numbers like those! Congratulations!

(Oh, and I also fit OSU-COMs guaranteed admissions criteria.)

I don't know where you got this from but I am pretty sure there is no such thing. I will ask tomorrow when I stop by to give a tour.

I am a 3rd year at OSU if any of you have questions or what not.

Dude, I wasn't doubting you at all!! That is a pretty awesome thing!!! Congratulations and I hope I will be in your class if you decide to go there!

Hello Everyone!

First an intro, I am a newly Pre-Med student that just switched from Pre-Pharmacy; I am currently attending Southwestern OK State

Does anyone here know what percentage of first time applicants OSU takes?

I know its mainly based on academics and not how many times applied but I'll be applying for the first time in summer of '08 and will have approximately 100 hours by then including many upper level sciences (ill be 20 hours away from a B.S. in Health). I have a 4.0 GPA currently and I will be taking the MCAT in the spring of 08 (around april). I've scored in the 96th on the PCAT and have alot of confidence in my MCAT capabilities. What I am worried about is that i know with OU that 95% of those accepted have a bachelors and are 2nd or 3rd time applicants.

Don't worry about it, OU and OSU are very dissimilar in the how they run things. At OU, you have to figure out exactly how to kneel to put their ass firmly in your view before they accept you, it's a delicate position and takes many people more than a few attempts to figure out the position. OSU is more laid back and doesn't play those ****ty games as far as I've ever seen. It's been 5 years since I received my acceptance from OU, and I'm still pissed about how I was treated and talked down to in my interview if ya can't tell.

If you still want the exact numbers, just shoot OSU an email, they don't mind answering questions.

Even thought that is pretty funny its pretty far off..

# of applications doesn't really play any part. What usually happens is if people get rejected an apply the next year they have done somethings to help out their app. As long as you meet a general guideline for a quality app you should be fine.... As for the MCAT don't overlook it. It is a completely different test from the PCAT. You will do fine on the physical sciences, but you will need to bone up on the biology and reading areas, not to mention the essay's...

Anyone heard whether they are taking the 98 this year over the 88? Just curious.

I don't know if that is starting this year or next. Has anyone heard?

I don't get it...what does that have to do with anything?

For those who have received interview invites already, when were y'all complete?

yeah, uh what the hell is that video about and what does it have to do with anything???? I'm wondering myself!! LOL! Well, whatever he's talking about, I agree!! haha You shouldn't pick on little kids! 😛
