I just got an email saying I was accepted into the dual degree program!!!!!!!! See you all in August!

WOW! CONGRATS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 👍😎

Congrats Sookie! I'm still hoping tomorrow is that magic day that promotes all the movement on the waitlist 🙂

Im a second year and thought I might give yall some advice in regard to the laptop issue. The one that was recommended to us was a fijitsu. Its a good one but has alot of stuff you dont really need. The only reason I would suggest purchasing it would be because the school offers to provide you with a loaner in case of a prob or anything like that. If you haven't been contacted and informed as to the specs they recommend they will soon. I know nothing about computers but, if I were to do it again I would have bought a cheaper one w/ at least 2 Gigs that is a tablet and has microsoft onenote. Feel free to semd me an email/private message if you have any questions, I dont come on here often so that would be the best way to contact me.

I agree with you, the only reason why you need the computer is to load webslide browser for Histo, and you can still view the slides with Java. So it is best to get a cheaper computer.

Good Luck class of 2012 with your 1st year of medical school! Please be advised that Histology and Anatomy are tough classes in your 1st year; However, Neuroanatomy was really big problem with our class. In fact, 25 students are retaking this class this summer. SO it is best to get a jump on it during the christmas break. Keep in mind that we had to take Anatomy Lab final 4 weeks later because of the icestorm, so that may have caused the reason for students retaking Neuroanatomy this summer.

Has anyone heard that if you take Histo prior to starting medical school AND make a B or better that the medical school will NOT make you retake Histo??? An ER doc told me that the other day.... don't know how true it is....

The only thing I know is that their is a program called Bridge Program at OSU. It is for minorities mostly that are pursuing in becoming a physician. The bridge program allows one to earn their D.O degree in five years instead of four years. For the 1st semester you take Histology and Biochemistry. In order for you not to retake Biochemistry and Histology in your second year (which is actually your 1st year) you must pass with an 85% or better. I took Histology in undergrad, and obtain a B or higher, but still had to take Histology in my first semester at OSU. I think the ER doc is confusing the med program with the Bridge program at OSU.

Ditto what MM20 said. (and I'm not the er doc spreading these pipe dreams 😉)

Does anyone know if there is a deadline to filling out and sending in the financial aid stuff? I got my award letter a few days ago, and I wanted to wait till next month to pick a lender and all that...I just don't know when we need to get it done by.

Thanks, you are probably right. I tried to look it up but came up with nothing.

DO/MS kids also take Histo and Biochem during the masters year and not during med school year one. I guess that's a good thing! Does anyone know when they will be sending out letters for those still on the wait list? I know they sent our dual degree program packets by UPS today. Hopefully everyone else will hear news soon!

I would read post this after ordering a $2,100 Fujitsu computer (Class of 2012). I made the decision after talking to OSU's tech support. Gad.

I remember a pregnant friend of mine gaining a lot of weight and while eating a donut looked over at me and said, "what's another couple of pounds. I'll never be the same anyway." Guess I was thinking, "what's another thousand bucks when you're entering abject poverty at 48." The one saving grace is that at the same time I'll be done with this (after 2nd year I assume), my youngest daughter will be entering college. She better like Fujitsu Tablet PCs because I have decided this one is hers.

And as a fellow note to my soon-to-be classmates, I remember how excited and proud I was to have received the admission phone call in January. It took about three days for the excitement to wear off before apprehension started to set in and the thought occurred to me, "you know chump, there is that possibility that you could be the dumbest person to have ever been admitted to medical school."

Eh, I've met some doosies before, it'll be a hard fought victory if you really want to claim that title.......

Okay, I need a little advice...and I think y'all are the best ones to ask!

I got my MCAT score back and it was HORRIBLE. So, I'm re-taking it August 7th. Should I go ahead and turn my primary in and just update all my schools in September when I get the results? Or should I just wait until September to submit?

As far as stats go:
MCAT: 16M 😳 (I hate Kaplan!)
Science GPA: 3.5
Non-Science: 4.0
Cum: 3.72 or 3.73
Lots of research, a little volunteering and a lot of shadowing/surgeries
Lots of scholarships, awards, and clubs too.

What do you think? Apply in a couple of weeks or wait until September?

My top schools are: OSU, KCOM, and KCUMB. OU too, because it's close to home...but it's a long-shot! lol.

THANKS!!!!!!!!!!!!

I was in a similar situation. My first MCAT score was not acceptable and I had to retake. I opted to turn in my primary and update OSU with my new score when I recieved it. In my opinion this was the best option because it showed that while I goofed up on the MCAT I was still extremely committed. I would suggest you take a similar route. Good luck on studying.

I have a question for those who were admitted a couple months ago. I have NO IDEA what forms I'm supposed to fill out for financial aid. Did the financial aid office ever send anything out to you guys?

All you do is fill out the FAFSA. On the application you list OSU-COM as a school to which you wish your information to be sent. After reviewing the results of the FAFSA the financial aid office will send you an award letter with further instructions for obtaining the aid. I suggest you call or email David Barron because I am not sure of dead lines or time lines that need to be followed.

I changed my FAFSA to include OSU-COM a few days ago. It says on the website that in order to be first priority for university based loans I was supposed to have my FAFSA in by April 1. Well that would have been impossible in my case, since i didn't find out til May 12 that I was accepted. I emailed him, but he won't be in his office til thursday!

Wait for the retake.

I think I'll probably wait. That way I can get all my LORs in hand. I'll get my score back the first week of September, so I can submit my primary on the same day that I get it back, and get everything ready for the secondaries....I'd want to have no more than a 24 hour turn-around. Anyway...I'm just rambling now, but that's the plan. Any comments or suggestions?

almo88 don't freak out too much. I submitted my primary in October or November maybe for AACOMAS, and it all worked out just fine. AMCAS is what needs to be submitted early. Just focus of studying for the MCAT right now, and kick it's butt in August. Your gpa is good, so all you need is a better MCAT and you'll be golden!

Thank you so much! You have no idea how much that helps me. I don't think I'm going to apply to MD schools. The only one I'm interested in is OU, and that's because it's an hour away from where I currently live. That's the only PRO to that school.

Thanks again! 👍

I just got a deferred acceptance to the DO/MBA program. Basically I have to complete the MBA program, and then I can start the DO program next fall.

This really freaks me out. If I accept the offer, I will be out of a science curriculum for 1.5 years (I graduated in December) before I jump into the science intensive curriculum of a medical school program.

Does anyone know anyone who's done this program? Its really hard to think about turning this offer down, but I'm way more concerned with the medical side of it than I am the MBA, and taking that long away from science could pose serious problems. Thoughts anyone about this program???

I agree with Dr Mom. I know two people that did this program (between 2-3 years) which I think was also hard for them for clinical skills.

I think you'll be fine. And congrats!

Anyone hear of waitlist movement? Calls or letters?

just have everything else ready to go 🙂

Will do! I've already asked for LORs and everything....so it's just a waiting/studying game now.

Thanks for all the advice, guys! You're awesome! 😀

I called the school today, and just thought I'd update my fellow waitlisters that they are meeting sometime in the next week to determine the final waitlist. Not the most exciting post ever, but sometimes a little info is better than none!

Thanks Chi O!!! you're right...ANY news helps! I had emailed Sarah last week, and she had mentioned that they have had "quite a few" withdrawals in the past week, so the committee is meeting to fill those spots from the waitlist! Good luck SDNers! I hope it's ALL of us!!!👍

Hopefully they decide soon so all of you can come to the admitted students day on june 14th!

Anyone get a call? Did anyone else get the transcript update email?

Anyone get a call? Did anyone else get the transcript update email?

Yes I got a transcript update email from osu recently, which i found interesting considering i'm not going to get in after 2 years of waitlisting. Good luck to all OSU/OU waitlisters and StephO. Stay positive. Reapply and spread out your search this year. I'm heading to KCOM, due to spreading out my school applications the second time around.
Anyone know when they're sending out the "final waitlist" and "rejection" letters soon? It was around this time last year. Not that the "final waitlist" did me any good last year or this year.

I still haven't received a financial aid awards letter! AHHHH! This is making me so worried....

I remember you said you filed your FAFSA pretty late, or you added OSU on there later on or something....I wouldn't worry about it just yet. Call or email David Barron.

They have my fafsa. They are still waiting to set tuition for DO/MS.

Did anyone get a letter today being selected for a position on the final waitlist? I wonder how many people are on it...

It says that all positions are filled, but if one becomes available, all those on the waitlist will be given "the utmost consideration."

I take it you received a letter today? I haven't gotten one......yet. No phone call either. Then again, I could get a rejection letter. At this point I am ready for closure.

I just received the final waitlist letter as well. From what I gather from Sarah and others is that there are around 20-25 people on the final waitlist and you can be pulled off of the list at any time between now and the first few days of classes in August.

I got my letter saying I was on the final waitlist yesterday also. If there are 20-25 people on it, that means they cut the waitlist almost in half (since they were saying 40-50 people on the original list). Does anyone know how many people they have pulled off the waitlist so far?

Even though I've already put in my application for next year, I'm still hopeful for this year. My sister (who graduated from OSU last May) didn't get pulled from the waitlist until July when she got accepted, and neither did my husbands step-brother (who is starting his third year). I'm trying to stay hopefully optimistic and realistically prepared at the same time 😕

I got my my "final waitlist" letter yesterday. This is my second year to be put on the final list and like last year I don't anticipate getting accepted. I don't know why there would be 20-25 people on the list, considering OSU's class size is 88 or so, but who knows. Could be true. Don't anticipate more than 5 people max getting in off the list at this point, but i've been wrong on these things in the past. Its a crap shoot at this point. Sorry for the negativity, but i've been getting waitlisted for a while now and tired of it. Good luck.

I was just wondering...during interview time Sarah said we'd find out acceptances via UPS... is that still true for those on the waitlist?

Also, does anyone know about deferred acceptances for next year?

From what I know they've given out the deferred acceptances for next year. I received mine (via UPS) around May 20th. I have to complete 30 hours of an MBA program before I can begin med school.

But is that only for the dual degree program?

i received mine via UPS too. I'm pretty sure they will do that for everyone because they want to make sure you get it.
