Just ask questions like that, ones that pertain to you. I have much respect for OSU and your original post makes it seem like you thought OSU is second to OU and they know it.

I agree with you that both schools know that they are drawing from the same applicant pool. But, I can't see that it would affect their admissions policies. It's a big enough (and competitive enough) applicant pool for both schools to fill their classes without any problems.

Now this might come into play with their recruiting and marketing strategies. But, that's a totally different ball game than admissions, in my opinion.
 
Little does anyone know...OSU have better board scores than OU every year. This may be a function of student population (OU has more students than OSU) but it still is an interesting fact.

I received it from an MD doctor. Pretty true to me.
 
Schools wont publish their scores, but will publish pass rates. Its hard to say with policies that way, but I can see more student passing at OSU.
 
True we have historically had a high boards pass rate but recently those numbers have decreased. We may very well score better on usmle than ou but that is merely a product of selection. OSU students who take usmle are actively trying to get into more competitive residency programs. Of course they will prepare more than ou students who must take the usmle and merely want to pass. My biggest critic of the school is the lack of legitimate shelf exams. I think this negatively affects comlex level 2 preparation.

we were told when we interviewed that within the next 1-3 years that the shelf exams were comming.

I did ask a question like that. It was precisely like that. I do not think that OSU is inferior to OU and nothing I have written would so imply.

If you read the original post again - a very short post - you will see that there is no implication in it. "How long do you have .... they must give you time to at least find out your status with OU". A simple comparison of the two threads show that a few people are experiencing this scenario. Although I have never posted in the OU thread I do occasionally check it and noticed the common names. It is a common conflict and I wondered how people resolved it.

I asked the question that I intended to ask and received the answer, thank you.

So I am starting to get really nervous about my interview and the fact that someone has to be denied! I hope that I can pull myself together the day of the interview and they can see past my nerves and to the real me!

I was thinking that it is doubtful that those of us with 11,12,13 interviews will find out before thanksgiving since there is also interviews around the 20th...and I would assume that they would want to meet after the two sets which would leave them around 5 days to make the calls! I just wonder how that is going to work...does anyone think that Sarah or Lindsey would be able to tell me if I called and asked when they meet next!

The statement "they (OSU) must" is what gives the wrong impression. For you to say OSU is obligated or "must" do anything involving OU shows your naiveness. In case you haven't noticed, you are the only one with your viewpoint on the situation.

I was really nervous about the interview as well. When you get there on interview day, try to chat up your fellow interviewees. It gets everyone talking and makes it easier when it's time to actually interview.

On my interview day, Dr. Stewart came in at the beginning, and we all introduced ourselves and asked a question about the school. This sort of helped get the juices flowing, and after that I was a lot more relaxed.

As far as notifications, just wait until interview day and talk to Lindsey or Sarah about it then.

I agree with just one, I got the same impression and that is the reason I reacted like I did. To be honest, I started the applications fully intent on OU bit after touring and talking to students, OSU really caught my attention and now I am pretty much set on going there.

just settle down. Most people denied don't even recieved an interview offer and of those who do and are denied, most have seious flaws or flat out lied.

Since I am the one who wrote the statement I know what was implied. That you and one other person inferred something else means that I did not express myself perfectly clearly. I am sorry that you took me wrong. Please try to give me the benefit of a doubt before inferring that I insulted OSU in some way.

I am aware that the whole OU/OSU thing is a religious issue in Oklahoma, so I should have been extra sensitive to be oh so very careful not to touch the sacred nerve. As for myself, I am tending, at this point, to prefer OSU. But my first university was TU, so I have not yet burned incense at either shrine.

The word "must" in the original post had to do with OSU "must" be considerate of the conflicts that their applicants experience. Now, that is clearly not an imperative. OSU could, if they wished, require each applicant to crawl across broken glass and submit to a proctological examination before an interview, but my experience with them is that they are reasonable people and therefore "must" (in the sense that consideration on their part would require) them to be understanding that applicants may be applying multiple places.

Since, OSU accepted some students before OU even began interviewing, then OSU would be the one who would be aware that at least some of their accepted applicants may choose to attend OU. This is surely something that happens every year. Not just at OU/OSU but at every medical school in the US. I wondered how that conflict was resolved and you answered me.

You are right, 15 paragraphs is not needed, but 1 well written with a thought out question is nice and makes thinks go along more smoothly. We are in fact conversing over the internet, all we have to go by is what you write. While you may know the true intentions, be remindful that others may not be able to pick out your true intentions when the question is worded poorly as above. I don't think it is coincidence that I am not the only one that "misinterpreted" your question.

Ok, I'll accept the correction and I'll stop giving sarcastic replies now. I just get overcome with ideas about burning incense and proctological examinations and can't stop my keyboard. (Or maybe burning incense during proctological examinations..... Stop it keyboard stop stop)

It's interesting that you say that because that's exactly what they want as well. They need to see the real you and understand that if you're too nervous that won't happen. The OSU staff and students at the interview go out of their way to make you feel at ease. You've already been given some good advice to converse with your fellow interviewees and just relax.

If you're a coffee drinker, I would also advise not to drink too much coffee in the morning unless you know your system can deal with it. I'm a caffeine addict, but purposefully limited myself to one cup the morning of my interview. I think it definitely helped me to not feel on edge. But, that's just me. I'm sure you'll be just fine. Just btw OU and OSU. Interviewed first round at the same time and sent out acceptances about the same time.

I also think a little maturity would be we deserved in place of the moderate amount of sarcasm you supplied us with. But best of luck to you and your application!

Sounds like a good sign, definitely not a bad sign. It's been stated before on this thread, but you can always call Lindsay or Sarah and ask them questions. They're great about letting you know what's going on in the application process.

I sent in my deposit today. I'm still pretty much convinced that some will call me up and tell me they've made a terrible mitake. I'm going to med school? No way!

Also - just throwing this out there - I can't wait to use the OSU gym. The downtown Tulsa YMCA is a bit shady!

Ya I tried that and it doesn't work. They say that your gym fees come out of your student fees, which you don't pay until your loans come in. I do a workstudy in the gym and might be able to help, so msg me later in the spring.
 
so i was up in the area yesterday and i thought i'd check out the apartments behind school. i know a couple of physicians from work who both lived there while they were in school.

westport apartments, www.westportontheriver.com, are actually pretty nice. i looked at a 2 br apartment facing the river priced at 800 bucks however that was probably one of the most expensive units... the apartment complex is a little old but it's been updated pretty well. it's within walking distance of school, its gated, its got 3 pools, backs up to the jogging trail along the river.

i really like that it's right next to school so i'm kinda sold on that... the apt manager told me to check back about 2 months before i wanna move in SO if you're considering that apt complex, give them about a month or two.
 
I am actually going to buy when I move down there, I've been looking at condo's in the riverside and 72nd area, but I have also found some nice houses that are updated and priced well that are in Broken arrow right off of the Broken Arrow expressway. With the tax rebate now extended through April, should be an awesome deal.
 
yeah those are both really nice areas. i go up to broken arrow every month... you might wanna also look at coweta just east of BA on highway 51... that's a pretty nice up-and-coming area. i have some friends who got a great deal on a brand new house out there.

Well, I actually live at Westport. I moved in on the first of August. I like it a lot. We have a 1 bedroom with a beautiful view of the river for a little under 600 a month.

I really like it. You can't beat the location. The complex is nice. Very family friendly. We decided on this apartment because we have a big dog - a very limiting factor in Tulsa - but we have been really happy with the choice.

Westport is a little more expensive than some of the other places in Tulsa, but I feel like I'll make up for it by saving gas next year. Great option for those looking to rent.

Yea Ive been told the glenpool area is also good, but I haven't done too much browsing around that area.
 
If you are going to look in Glenpool, you should upgrade and look in Jenks.

I think there was one other who posted on here about the 20th.

However, just called Sarah and confirmed all my paperwork arrived so its official! Yay!
 
I chose to build a home in order to recoup some of the money from loans when I choose to move. There are several builders in town (I bought from Simmons) that can get you into a pretty nice home for a reasonable amount of money. Our home is 1500sq ft. Energy star certified and the mortgage is right at 800/month. Our utilities +phone/cable/internet vary rarely crack 200$/month.

Some people really like the idea of renting, and westport is a pretty good choice being next door. But I don't like the idea of "giving" money away. I would advise to skip over Broken Arrow for the time being. Downtown is a huge construction mess right now and the BA backs up ALOT. Also, 1 decent wreck on the BA shuts down your only real way in and out of Tulsa. Like Dr. Mom said, Glenpool and Jenks offer alot of options. Jenks costs more, but the prop values are higher as well. I currently live on the southside of Bixby and drive about 20 mins to school each way. Tons of options, so check around town.
 
Sounds good, we were looking to build but couldn't find anything suitable but ill take a look at your builder.

Interviews went really good. OSU is a GREAT school! Our entire pool of applicants today seemed like they would be great classmates - funny, laid back, and smart.

Had the interview today, I am very excited to hear back. They said we would know before Thanksgiving. Great school and atmosphere, by far, the most impressive thing was how enthusiastic the first and second years were about the school and their experiences there. Like I said, cannot wait to hear. My feedback is posted, so have at it folks with interviews coming up next week. Good luck to all.
 
Already posted interview feedback. Honestly, I had to search to get the questions out. My interview was 45 min of talking back in forth in a conversation manner, and questions werent really "posed" per se. But I listed the things we talked about. They were so informal during my time and seemed like they were really interested in me and the things I care about.
