Haha...ya'll are crazy. I have to confess though, I did join Zoolander's Group for Really Really Ridiculously Good-looking People on facebook. It was like...coming home to a warm fireplace *tear*.

dd, just noticed we both worked through school to support family and did a stint at the Humane Society. Schools seemed to like the work exp. I think it really helped me.

Yeah I think the work experienced helped somewhat. Though I do wonder if it would have been better to have been able to just go to school and then have more time for shadowing and whatnot, cause I think some schools are getting a tad hung up on that. Then again I think I'm a lot more mature (generally speaking 🙂) than most of the kids who had mommy and daddy buy them a new car after graduating high school and give them a full ride through college. Not that I have anything against those people, some of my best friends have a great deal of money, but they really don't seem to appreciate what they have as much as I do.

As for the human society, it was kind of fun back in the day. I remember this one christmas where people brought their pets in to take picture with santa and I had to get up in full santa gear and pose with various dogs, cats, birds, etc.

Nope, because work is a good differentiator, and at least you're getting paid. You'd be surprised, or maybe you wouldn't, how many med students have never worked at all, or at most PT. Everbody's done shadowing, and after a short amount of it, there's really no point. Your EC's are fine, its the job exp that's setting you apart.

Even when I become a Dr, I think I'd still feel stupid/guilty for buying a new car....or maybe not🙂. And yeah, its hard to appreciate things in a concrete way until you don't have them...'course its hard to appreciate them until you have them too haha.

My HS was a little weird. It was huge, and right across from the Salvation Army, so the whole neighborhood was a sort of homeless camping ground, which means we had some real character visits. They caught one employee humping the dogs, and after they fired him they caught him digging through the dumpster where they kept the euthanized animals....lookin' to "get some action". The euthanasia tech was a convicted murderer (technically, I guess he was most qualified for the job). When I left they had a couple of bears rescued from a circus.

Yeahhhhh UTSW. It was gettin down to the time where it was like okay they don't wanna talk to me, so I might as well. And I'm not dumb... my MCAT is nowhere near good enough for them... or maybe I am dumb, since I applied in the first place. The lady I talked to in the admissions office before I applied was like your score is a little low but it sounds like you have a ton of activities that we love... guess not.

I think you're right about the PBL... is it sad I had a hard time remembering? It seems like I applied ages ago... And I haven't taken those pictures yet, hopefully this semester the cells behave and I can get some pretty pictures for my poster.

I would think a lot apply to most of the schools just based on the fact that it is soooooo much cheaper to apply to multiple schools on TMDSAS as opposed to AMCAS. But, then again, there could be some oddballs like me that only choose 2.

You know what would be super nice? An update email... maybe along the lines of "We're still deciding if we want to commit in this relationship, the long distance is somewhat of a deterrent, but we don't want to pass up a potentially good thing and we just need some time to think."

hahaha no no, I know exactly why I applied to UTMB! And now I totally know where it is... though I admit to being pretty geographically ignorant... blame it on being smack dab in the middle of the country, and even more so when I'm at school. But yes, I would fit perfectly haha... and don't tease me w/ the strong recommendation... heard that one already.

The general consensus with mcg is they haven't made any notifications since back in november. They're really slow for some reason.

Shiny buildings were nice and all, but I think honestly it would just come down to houston being a tad closer to my friends and family in the area. Galveston is a touch farther, but I liked that school equally in comparison to houston.

Always been skeptical of the long distance in med school thing...4 years + not sure where your res is gonna be = low chance of success.

I haven't yet... I need to once I get back to school. The doctor I volunteer w/ also went there (he's in his fellowship currently so he's not far removed from the school) so I will talk to him as well. Luckily I have till May to decide (and hold out hope for UTMB and Rochester of course!)
