Alright here's the UTMB lowdown...

So I emailed Dr. Thomas the update and a little paragraph about my continued interest and here was her reply this morning:

Thank you for voicing your continued interest in attending UTMB. At the
current time, our class is filled, however, we do anticipate movement
sometime during the months of March -June. I will send your email over
to our Admissions Office so that they can make a note of your interest.

Excellent deductive skills my friend. Although I escaped last year's unscathed, it was disappointing for most....thought I'd memorialize the occasion haha.

What other psych classes are you trudging through this semester? And why did you pick "fiend" instead of say, "captain"? An inquiring mind wants to know.

I know, I read last years Texas thread when match was posted... seriously depressing.

I'm also taking "Sleep and Sleep Disorders" and then my psych capstone, "Judgment and Decision Making". I really like both of those. In my capstone, we are going to do a section of Medical Decision Making... like how doctors decide what steps to take in diagnosis and treatment, and ethical situations.

I picked fiend because I'm obsessed... and I'm technically not a captain anymore since I can't play 👎

I got valided at the beginning of jan. Had a few lmu updates since last year, and no acceptances...yet 🙂 As our jedi master mykudu has pointed out on more than one occasion those really don't mean a thing. It's funny if you look at the texas thread a few weeks ago they were freaking out because they wanted the updates because they were convinced it meant an acceptance. Sometime in the last few days they did a 180 and are now convinced it means rejection.
Turned out my hotel had wireless so I can fill my sdn addiction sufficiently. Like the avatar my kudu 👍

And I'm not real sure but the match will probably be a let down for us.

I'm in the class called Genetics and Society right... I have to write this paper where I'm having a dialogue w/ a doctor who is my friend where I have to advise him to not give out Tamiflu prophylactically and also to not have a personal stockpile of it. I understand writing a paper about it... but a dialogue?

Me: "Due to blah blah blah blah Tamiflu blah blah blah...."
Dr.: "Oh really? You don't say."
Me: "Yes, I do say."
Dr.: "Well, good to know."

Oh yes Capt, now that you are MS 0,1,2,3, or 4, you have achieved lesser deity status among premeds…its quite the subculture. Judgment and Decision Making does sound very interesting. If presidents and generals can keep their former titles, I say you probably can too haha.

I took 2 humanities classes last semester actually. Sometimes I wish my school had more *fun* classes. I needed to take Genetics and Society because its Writing Intensive and my school requires 2 WI classes, one of which has to be in your major. I took my Psych one last year, so now its time for the Bio one. I had to take Dev. Psych because I've been putting it off till now aka dreading it. Already did the Bio capstone, so the Judgment and Decision Making was a must as well. But its awesome... no tests, no projects, just seminar style. My sleep class was the only thing I didn't need to take... I wanted to only take 9 hours but car insurance says no no no. The sleep class is taught by one of my favorite psych profs from freshman year, so I thought what the heck.

Airfares... can't really help ya. This kid is semi-lucky in that her dad travels every week therefore accumulates free Southwest tickets and lets his lovely daughter use them. Except I had to buy American to fly to Rochester cause Southwest blows and only flies to Buffalo... cost like 250... craziness.

Oh gosh... I don't even remember the names. I know one of the things looked like a cinnamon roll but instead of icing it looked like salsa or something. And the other thing, I wanna say the name started w/ a K, but I could be totally wrong. And I wanna say it was something w/ meat in it, but November was so long ago...

And mykudu for cheap airfaires I usually just call my travel agent a.k.a my mom (she works for delta) and get great deals. Don't think that will work for you though. If you go to cheaptickets.com or a couple of the others and are early enough you can get some good deals. Most of the sites are all the same with the same flights so it doesn't matter which one you go to.

yikes, not really.

i use orbitz etc to find which airline is cheapest, then go to the airline's website to buy the ticket. they cost less when you buy direct and it's much easier to change your reservation without the hassle of orbitz or whatever booking site.

Yeah I've had pigs in a blanket before... that's what I thought they looked like. I'm not a huge fan of hot dogs though... what type of meat is in kolaches? I think I'd like the fruit ones.

Anywho, my prof was talking about how many neurons are in your brain and she made an analogy to hot dogs. If your neurons were hot dogs, you would have enough to circle the earth 404 times. I'm so glad I know that now. 🙄

Yep, sophomore level. A C?? That's way too scary haha. Plus, I'd get less than a C if I didn't go to class... we have participation points and pop quizzes... in a 350 person lecture.

Yes...beware the class with "participation points" haha. Kinda reminds me of a study skills class I had to go to. The prof was a very enthusiastic, cutsie type lady with a Psych PhD. She wanted us to split up into study groups and have each person assume a different personality to role-play in the group.

Ummm.......no. -_-

Luckily, the collective class groan was enough to shoot that down immediately.

Morning of interviews I always wake up at like 5, whether I want to or not. So I'm usually caffeine loading for like two hours prior to interviews which makes me quite a bit of fun by the time I get there.

Not too shabby. The school is really nice, small class too like 90 people, the people there are probably the nicest out of all the schools I've been to. One of my interviews was crazy long, like an hour and a half 😱 The guy was pretty awesome though and the time went by fast but I was tired afteward. The other was with a 4th year who seemed really cool. He even gave me a tour of the hospital during the last part of the interview. And I had this nurse hitting on me right before I was leaving 😉 Not that I blame her, I am pretty hard to resist in my navy suit and power tie 😛

They have a faculty meeting next week. Last year this was the one they presented the class composition at. I'll keep a look out for oos stats just for the heck of it.

I actually like the match system believe it or not. Before all this prematch acceptance crap, you knew exactly when you would find out...no refreshing your email every 10 minutes for months on end haha.

I actually have a blackberry so everytime that little red light starts blinking my heart rate jumps and I lose sight of whatever I'm doing to check who it's from, which is ok, but sometimes I'm driving when it happens and it gets a little dicey. Keep in mind this happens whenever I get an email so we're talking like at least ten times a day 😀
