I only applied to UTMB, so I only know theirs... tution for first year is about $19,650 as compared to the IS of $6,550. But, supposedly if you get a scholarship that is at least $1,000, they knock the OOS tuition down to IS.

Sadly, the OOS tuition for UTMB is cheaper than my state school 🙁

I think they're all like that lacrosse, though I didn't go to Southwestern or tech so I don't know about them. One of my state schools is on the cheaper side, the other is more expensive than oos texas tuition as well.
 
I'm just curious how I'd have to pay if I have to reapply. I'm from Texas, but just moved to Tennessee, so I don't know if I'd still be considered in state or out of state. my permanent address is still in TX

My state school's tuition is about $24,000 for each of the first two years and about $26,500 for the third and fourth. But for OOSers, it's double that. Crazy!!!

Hmmm I'm not sure... I don't know much about residency rules. But I think the OOS tuition is still a really good deal.

I'm hoping to meet with the dean of admissions to discuss my file. I just want to have something to tell the guy.. I retook the MCAT but don't have my score, I'm applying for jobs but don't have one, and I applied to volunteer but haven't started yet. Hopefully I can get a new, better score, get a job, and start to volunteer soon.

yea, that would be good. you should send one individually as soon as each of those things happens. plus, weave in some other "character" type stuff about you too. chances are they don't know everything about your past. plus, that's 3 different letters right there.

They have lots of different situations you can look over (I did in my futile attempt to prove residency), but if your permanent residence is in texas you should be fine. Goodluck army!

haha... when my dad saw that figure, he was like so.... state school? haha. I'm keeping hope out for Rochester though... as futile as that might prove to be.

I've sent mine all out as emails. Except for one school, I sent it in an email and also said a physical copy is to follow.

Dunno if its the best way to go, but at least sometimes you get a response back.
 
So I went for my interview earlier and I realllllllly don't think I got that job :laugh: Honestly it was pretty short, with her telling me most of the time what the company did. lol, honestly I probably couldn't have cared less and said all of like twenty words the whole time, it was over in like half an hour. It was a lab position and I had put something on my resume about the research I had done, and she was like, "oh you did research with turtles, they're like mammals or something right?" I think she realized how dumb that sounded and started saying something about what happens when you get out of school. It's so hard to care about getting a job that you really don't want to get and I think this comes across somewhat. I'm going to have to work on my acting skills for the next one 😛
 
Anyone hear from Houston yet? I remember that they sent out a few out of state acceptances during the prematch, but haven't heard about anybody getting anything from them since.

I'm not sure about them. I honestly haven't heard anyone on here get acceptances at houston. I interviewed in dec, at one of their last sessions and am going to be quite upset if they send me a rejection for my trouble.

Think we'll get any news next week? It's going to start to get quite ridicules to go on much longer without any info. I'm already not too happy as it is to have waited on utmb for close to 5 months to only get rejected or waitlisted.

Got an email from houston. They do not have ranked waitlists and keep everyone they interviewed to re-evaluate them as spots open up. It did not say a think about oos. 👎

I guess its true then. I was skeptical when I first heard this, since that means several hundred apps are in play, and if they don't rank them, doesn't that mean they have to look through all of them every time someone withdraws? I suppose they have them organized somehow.

So it really gets me that any oos interviewing in texas after oct 15 are just interviewing for waitlist spots. You would think that they would realize the cost of someone who doesn't live in texas to come to the state for an interview is significantly more than people who live there. I mean at most interviews they're up front and no matter how late the interview, they'll tell you that you are not interviewing for a waitlist spot, they did this at houston, which is apparently a lie to oos. They forgot to say, "oh except out of state students, you guys just blew a few hundred dollars to come out here for a tiny chance at being accepted and best case scenario alternate list."

I started to realize how much money I spent going back and forth to that state in the last few months 😡

So I've been wondering about this...if you get that $1000 scholarship, do you get your tuition knocked down to in state AND still get the $1000 (so that your tuition would actually be $1000 cheaper than in state)? Or does the $1000 scholarship trade in for in state tuition?

I think we're spoiled in Texas, Jolie. Some of the IS tuition at schools I've been to have been in the mid-20K range. But that's why Texas is the best! 😀

Ah, cuz I'd be kinda mad if you OOS'ers ended up paying less than me 😀 Actually, not really. If you manage to make it in as an OOS'er, and manage to get a scholarship >=$1000, you deserve to go for free, IMO!

So I just got an interview invite to Medical College of WI... really dunno if it's worth going to.

I'm in Developmental Psych right now... we are learning about axons... very novel concept.

But does anyone know if UTMB or UT San Antonio send out letters to tell you are on the waitlist for out of state or do you just keep waiting until August....
