I aspire and hope to be like you someday....
So how is it? Does it zoom zoom as advertised?
Um, kudu, I can't tell you. Its a secret that currently dd and I know, and you will have to find out on your own.
😕 Ummm, I was asking how you liked your new machine....haha.
Mmmm....these green apple slices with chocolate amaretto dip are soooo good.
dd how is it that I was thinking of that exact video![]()

Apples? Dip?
Down to my last week of work, well almost, friday doesn't count of course. It's getting quite exciting 😀
Back from Columbia... packing for Rochester. Had a good stay in Columbia, but it went waaaaay too fast. I learned that I make killer salmon, though. And this is the third time I've made the boy chocolate fudge cake, and I still haven't gotten a piece!
I went and said my goodbyes to the advisors at the Honors College (I worked there in the summer last year) and I got roped into doing what's called Scholars Day... prospective students come w/ parents and sit in this big auditorium and I stand on stage and answer questions w/ some other students and the director of the Honors College. I was talking to the director before I left and he was like so when's the big move? And I told him probably late July, and he said "Perfect! You can do Scholars Day... it's July 11"So I laughed and he was like pleaaaaaase I have no pre-meds! So I was like ugh... fine.
Oh, who am I kidding? I'm excited to do it 😛
My last day lunch is Monday. It will be pretty emotional. It's been over 11 years. You guys (except Zulu-slayer)were still in elementary school, maybe middle school when I started there, and it was by no means my first job out of college!

Wonder where zulu-slayer's been? Probably jumping off buildings in downtown Houston.🙄
The dancing bananas are a bit annoying.😉 I'm still trying to figure out when I can go into the office and do my check-out! My farewell lunch is today, but I'm still semi-employed.😉 I am not, however, receiving too much in the way of paychecks these days!

After a few months of med school, that won't seem so irrational🙂. How was the lunch?
So the day after I told ya'll about that nice apt, I noticed on our class facebook that someone had just leased it and was looking for a roommate. Unfortunately its a she, which might be more than a little awkward...I can only imagine the looks when her parents visited haha. So, scratch that one.
I checked out an eff in a old Victorian built in the 1880's. There's actually 4 apts, two of which have 3rd year students in them. Beautiful neighborhood, with old trees in front. 10 min walk to class. Two large bed & breakfast homes nearby, one of which is owned by a former playmate of the month haha. The only place to park is right in front on the street under the huge trees. That's nice except they're very popular with the birds and the sidewalk showed it. $525 + elect and gas. Probably not worth moving from my current spot.
Got an email from one of the coed fraternities...they have a spot. Looks like a motel with a courtyard in the middle...own room and bathroom. $325 ABP, including cable and internet. Hot tub, big screen tv, ~10 min walk to class, no set lease term, and the house chef provides 9 meals a week. Not sure, but man that's hard to pass on.
The lunch was great. Well attended, even some people I don't know who came along for free food! I'm technically still employed. My last day is officially the 30th, but I will be gone. I still have to go in and turn in my computer and fill out a jillion forms, and I've been trying to figure out when I can fit that into my schedule.😛Enough hating on the bananas. What did they every do to you 😛
So are you officially unemployed now? It's a bit scary that I'll be able to say that I am in a few days. The interest free cash flow was nice while it lasted...
The frat doesn't sound like a bad idea. Can't beat that price, especially for cable and internet. We're required to use comcast, and I got quoted $75 for basic cable and high speed internet bundled (and that's with some special deal too). With no lease you can move out anytime also. Just out of curiosity what's ratio of guys to gals in the thing?

I'm headed to Temple for a few days tomorrow, and unless I go somewhere, or hijack my neighbor's wireless (which I doubt exists), I won't have internet. I'll miss you sooo much!
You can't leave...that'll make me the oldest thread member again, and I don't want that mantle back haha.![]()
We certainly don't want an old kudu in charge.😱
Guess I'm going to have to finally let the utmb dream die as well 🙁
On an unrelated note, I was at work today and sort of reflecting (it was a slow day 😉), and couldn't help but notice how many people I work with don't really like their job. It sort of made me wonder how people could go their entire lives in a job they completely hate. I did jobs I hated for the last 8 years and would probably have done a little skydiving of my own had I had to do it much longer 😛
Whatever...you're going to a great school, you got into the cheap housing, you'll be near family, and you're about to quit your job....UTMB can kiss your butt👍.
So, I met the girl I'm going to live w/ and her family... super nice. We looked at a couple of houses, apartments, and the graduate housing. I think we are leaning more towards grad housing since its on campus, and then the apartments and then the houses. Even though the house was right behind the hospital, it was 4 bedroom and I'd rather just live w/ 1 person I don't know very well rather than 3.
Kinda nervewracking going up there, though! Made me realize that its actually happening... and its kinda scary.
(Yes, I'm aware that makes me sound like a baby)
Don't we know you from somewhere? 😛 How'd you find the room mate? Are you sure she's not an axe murder or worse...a hillary voter!...😱 haha, j/k 🙂
I know what you mean though, it was just a nice prospect down the road a few months ago, but now that I'm moving in two weeks it's getting very real very fast. I'm already stressed out with the million different things I need to do and school hasn't even started yet....for love of god will somebody please give me a coffee table!...sorry, I'm ok...
The girls I was going to live w/ first had talked to this girl and she emailed me. She's super nice... and plays lacrosse too!
That's great and all, but what's her size and body composition? You need to find someone with a good balance of fat and protein in case you guys get snowed in and you have to throw your own Donner party.
I was thinking about submitting a letter to UT San Antonio to let them know why I am specifically interested in their school. On my TMDSAS I talked about why I want to move back to Texas, but since there is no secondary for San Antonio, I won't get the chance to tell them why I'd really like to go to school and live in San Antonio. I don't' want them to think they are just another check box that I clicked...

Hello all OOSers!

What do you think? Did any of you send letters like this to emphasize why you aren't just another OOSer?
Any advice on things I can do at this point to increase my chances would be great! Thanks!!!
Sure, why not? dd was able to clear 4 tx ints, probably because he has ties to the state, although I believe he did mention "sheer awesomeness" as another factor. I think the better you are able to convince them that you have legitimate and well thought out reasons for applying to a particular school or state, other than "that's where the dart landed on the map", the better off you'll be especially as an oos. Send it to admissions, of course.![]()
Dr. Kellaway at houston would probably be about as high as you can go
Thank you for the advice! My wife and I really do want to move back to Texas and set up home in the state, I just hope I can get my foot in the door! So Dr. Kellaway is the person to send the letter to at UT Houston? And you are saying that Houston is more receptive of letters?

Oh, and exi, I think cpa was just saying that SA isn't really receptive to notes about wanting to live in that area (as w/ her predicament), not that SA is a bad school.
The house thing sounds great, lacrosse! By putting a bid on it, does that mean they're hoping to buy it?
cpa2md said:Oh, my rant of the week...it's primarily against a guy named Mark, but it is advice for the rest of you. NEVER, NEVER, NEVER, NEVER, NEVER put latex paint over oil-based paint without sanding first. Even if you prime, it will fall off. That's what I faced this week in Temple. All the 5 miles of woodwork in the house are peeling their relatively fresh paint. 😡
Yep! And I got news that they actually closed on it today! Hooray! I attached a picture of the outside of it.

😕 There's more than one type of paint????Kidding... was hoping I'd make you smile a bit.
Oh, and by the way... over on one of the Mizzou threads, someone was telling me that I will be missed (kudu and dd, stop laughing) and then said "what happened to your 'the todd' avatar? I liked it better"... We must find and torture this outsider.
Cute house!! But wait! I'm confused.😕 They put a bid on it one day and closed the next? Life just doesn't happen that way, except in TV movies.😉
Haha, yeah well maybe not for those above the lowly middle class. I smell a rich roomate, good job lacrosse 🙂 Nice house though 👍
See you guys in a couple days, I'll more than likely keep tabs via blackberry 😉
My bad, my bad... I was typing that post while watching something that said the word close and automatically thought that was what I was supposed to write. I meant signed. Sorry for the confusion 😀
My experience (and that of some other people) is that their admissions office is not easily swayed in a favorable direction, even when there are extenuating circumstances, or even when you know people who know people.

From paraglider training yesterday. The top one is shortly after takeoff on a practice run. The second is from groundschool. No, that's not me in the green leaning right...that's just part of the simulator frame. I'm against the atv.
Glad cpa is back. I was starting to miss that ol' fart.😛

😆
Having fun??
What, may I ask, did I or that ATV ever do to you?????!!!!😛
And exi... I dunno what to tell you, it's a tough call. But, I do think you should give yourself a little time (more than just less than 1 month) to really study for the MCAT since if you take it a 3rd time and for some reason don't get in this year, it might not look that great to have to take it for a 4th time for next season. Just my 2 cents. Luck w/ whatever you do, buddy![]()
Thank you thank you. The plan is to, well, plan on an August 5th retake, as much as I hate to do that for the third time. I have been told, and the MSAR confirms, that my sectional scores do not entirely place me out of the running, so there is that, I guess. I'm just trying to find out whether there's a good chance I might be rejected outright before then, because if I could land several interviews as is, well, would a retake be 100% necessary?
Tricky situation. I hate this waiting/uncertainty thing. 🙁
