I have never heard of anyone on this forum talking about Oxford. Does anyone have any info on their med school? Would it be as competitive as top schools in the US?

i think there's an international forum.

I am nearly certain you enter medical school immediately after high school in the UK. And then there is all this A-level business, the results of which are often required for admission. If you want to nullify four years of undergraduate study, I would definitely look into studying medicine at Oxford. Otherwise, stay in the US, and aim for the top if you are looking for name recognition and a premiere education. I think the best US schools are better institutions than Oxford and Cambridge anyway, perhaps because of their larger endowments. Interestingly, I work with a girl from the UK and she said unhesitatingly that the top US schools are better than the top UK schools, including Oxford. Perhaps someone will argue that this entire message is anecdotal, and that's cool too.

It is anectotal. Oxford also has a four-year medical degree for those who have completed an undergraduate degree already - whether the applicant is British or not. The five and six-year medical degree still exists mostly for applicants from high school with English A-levels or Scottish Highers (and, occassionally graduates with a non-science degree).

I don't think Oxford or Cambridge accepts medical school applicants from Americans. The only intl students they accept outside of the EU are students with no med schools in their home country. Ask on the intl forum.

Oxford is superb for its humanities, Cambridge for its sciences, particularly physical sciences, and mathematics.

However, US medicine is stronger, largely because biomedical research (in contrast to mathematics, for example) requires actual hands on research, and that takes a lot of money. Stick to top US schools.
