P/f vs grades

I don't see how this could hurt. This system IMO works perfectly with self-driven people that understand that the material taught is not just for passing classes but for acquiring important knowledge which will best help you treat patients. Pros definitely takes out competition to some extent and gives you a little more leisure when It comes to being prepped to ace eery single test. I'd personally prefer P/F I had the choice

Since some of the top schools in the country are on a P/F system, and they routinely send a majority of their graduating classes on to post doctoral specialty programs, I do not see any disadvantage to the P/F system. The notion that it diminishes competition among the type A, OCD, gunners in the class is not really true. Although the final transcript grade will be H/P/F, during the course of the semester, the regular examinations are generally graded on a numeric system. Thus, the competition remains fierce. The whole point of the P/F system is then tainted.

true but there are a very few select schools that truly don't rank. pure P/F. but most do have some percentages or rankings in place

There are no class ranks for Harvard, Columbia, or UCSF...three of the top schools in the country. I am looking over official transcripts from those schools now to double check this.

P/F is nice, you still have to work hard to pass classes. It's meant to dcrease the amount of "gunning". This way you don't have the pressure of needing to get 99s on every test.
