Nope...My waitlist letter was the "standard" waitlist letter...

This was Dean Frantz's response to my letter sometime in December

By "standard" waitlist letter do you mean the same letter that was posted above?

"Although it is too soon to know definitely how things will go this year, I can assure you that we will keep you very strongly in mind. I think you would enjoy being a student at P & S, and from a purely personal point of view I may say that it would give me real pleasure to have you with us."

I agree with loomis, it truly is a crapshoot!

Congrats to all who have gotten in though, P & S is a great school!

did anyone else get this letter from frantz? i'm just wondering why he'd say this to ppl he wasn't going to accept. i got the EXACT same letter and got waitlisted...now i think that he just says this to everyone he interviews. ahh well...more drama to the upenn decision i guess.

Only thing I can add is that my reply to a thank you note included a direct reference to the person who interviewed me. Mine didn't say anything above except for the "strongly in mind" part. Either way, sounds like he sends alot of these out to strong candidates.

Yup, I received the same waitlist letter that was posted above.

Interesting that morecowbell and I received the same letter before getting waitlisted.

I know P&S refers to columbia but what is P&S? What does it stand for?

Physicians & Surgeons... the school's full name Columbia University College of Physicians & Surgeons.

For those of you who got waitlisted, are you planning to send an LOI along with the "hold place" reply?

Since the only way to get off the waitlist at P&S seems to be an LOI stating you'll definitely go there if accepted, the LOI would have to wait for other schools' decisions and financial aid packages. In addition, I don't want to make a commitment to P&S if they don't offer an estimate of the fin aid package I'd be getting.

What do you guys think?

Why does Columbia interview so many people and get all of their hopes up and then flood them with this "highly ranked waitlist" mumbo jumbo? I'm glad I didn't get an interview, there's no way I would have made it but I feel sorry for the people who did get one and fell in love with the school, etc.

Although it is more difficult and time consuming to interview so many applicants P&S still insists on this policy. Although you think it is giving false hope think of how many applicants wouldn't have had the opportunity to showcase who they "really" are rather than just be rejected by your numbers.

I am probably going to wait for the other non-rolling schools to get back to me before I make any decisions about sending LOIs. Columbia is a great school though.

has anyone heard anything from columbia today?

Got the lovely waitlist letter today. Oh well. What's meant to be is meant to be. Congrats to all those who've gotten in! Does anyone know what percent of those inteviewed get waitlisted vs. rejected?

waitlisted here too - postmarked 2/25, mailed to new jersey...

OK, yet again, nothing in the mail and I'm not very far from NYC. (One state down). I know they only reject a handful post-interview, yikes--was I that bad??? 🙄 Oh well.

just to confirm what i've been reading... has *no one* received an acceptance postmarked 2/25? and are these letters being sent to our "legal permanent address" instead of "preferred mailing address" (where interview invites were sent way back when)?

Hmm. I finally received my waitlist notification today in Evanston. It was worded the same as the one received by raincrew, et al. Post-marked 2/25 as well. I guess I'll just have to keep waiting. err.

oh, also, I received the letter at my current mailing address rather than my legal permanent address. This is where my interview invitation was sent as well.

Waitlisted.

Oh well.

WAITLISTED.

GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR.

I'm going to go hide myself in a hole now. +pissed+

I think I'm in the waitlist/rejection pile, but I haven't got anything yet. Mails don't usually take this long to get from NYC to L.A. When I got the Albert Einstein letter last month, it took two days to get from Bronx to my place....it's weird.

They probably really mailed the letter to my Permanent address in Hong Kong, but that doesn't make too much sense especially when my "Preferred" mailing address is in here at L.A.

Oh well...waiting for Monday...

Since Columbia is non-AMCAS, maybe they did mail it to your permanent address. I realized that since I applied over the summer, I never gave them the corrected preferred address separately. So I got my interview invite and my waitlist letter 🙂( ) at my permanent address, where my parents called to tell me the decision.

I guess they DO mail stuff to Permanent address...

Anyways, I've told my parents to call me once they get something.

Rejected.

My saga with Dean Frantz has come to an end.

yeah i got the SAME letter.

Does anyone have ANY idea how many people they waitlist each year? If so, please tell us, and state the source. Also, if you have any info on how many get off the waitlist (I've heard everything between 30-50) please share that as well.

Thanks very much.

waitlisted too. boo...
postmarked feb 26th... a day later than everyone else... i really hope that's not a bad sign. 🙁

I received a letter asking if I wanted to be on Columbia's "list of alternates." Is this the same thing as being on the waitlist?

yes it is. Just a different name it seems. I sent it in with a personalized letter today explaining why I like Columbia and asking to be included in second-look weekend. I'm going to call Frantz later this week to check that he received my letter and tell him over the phone how interested I am in P&S.

Yea, I just got my waitlist letter today...finally.

Since Columbia P&S is my first choice, I'll pursue the waitlist, but with such a large waitlist, it's hard to tell what will happen.

Calbee, I thought you wanted more love from the Chi-town schools? 😉

Hehe, It goes like this: Columbia, then Northwestern. I'm thinking about dropping my Pritzker waitlist (Not sure yet), because I'll prefer UCLA's shorter lecture hours and improved curriculum over Pritzker's traditional curriculum.

Waitlisted as well.

I'm curious what the response is to the requests to attend 2nd look weekend. What would they think if you wrote a letter of intent and requested to attend 2nd look? It doesn't really make sense to go to 2nd look if you are already committed to going.

A quick question for those of you that have been accepted at Columbia or might know how the process works.

Since colombia is a non AMCAS school, does the May 15th deadline for multiple acceptances still apply to them.
Also, after accepting an offer for admission to colombia is one then solely committed to attending.

These might be really silly questions. I know how this works for AMCAS schools but Columbia appears to do everything differently.

Thanks guys
😎

since they are not amcas, they dont have to follow their guidelines...even though im sure they try to see if they can somewhat follow them for the benefit of the applicant who has most likely applied to some amcas schools as well.

I am so freaking frustrated with Columbia. I still have received no letter. I live in NJ so it's not like I am in Alaska where I would have to wait. I called them today and they said they mailed my letter out Thursday (I am assuming that means rejection! Waitlists were probably mailed weds, acceptances tues). It is tuesday and no letter still. I got something from Mt Sinai in two days so I don't know what is going on. And they won't tell me a thing on the phone, just *wait for it*.

It's like I know I've been rejected, but getting the silly letter would give me some closure.

Anyone else not receive a letter yet that technically should have (being on the East Coast and all?).

Actually, my alternate list letter was postmarked for last Tuesday, 2/24. I received it yesterday. I dunno what that has to do with anything, since everyone else's seems to be postmarked for 2/25. Bah, I think I'm going to withdraw anyway.

My waitlist letter was postmarked on 2/26, Thursday, and I got in at Los Angeles yesterday (Monday).

Some mails may have been lost though...that happens sometimes with USPS

Have you guys all heard of alternates actually being allowed to attend second look weekend in the past? I would love to do this as well. However, I just had the opportunity to speak with a recently retired administrator at P&S and he said he would not encourage me to ask Dr. Frantz for that kind of favor. I'm kind of scared to ask now. Let me know what you've heard.

I was trying to meet with Dr. Frantz for the coveted second interview (My first interviewer was someone else), but he said that he was all booked up for the next few weeks, but said I might be able to do that in the future instead.

Did anyone succeed in scheduling a second-interview with him?

Hmm interesting, I personally know of at least one person who's already second interviewed with Frantz. When did you get this info from him, Calbee?

I sent in a letter about the second interview, and the letter is dated 3/5. Then I called again today (3/23). Dr. Frantz first asked me where I live now (B/c I indicated that I want my future mailing to go to my Hong Kong permanent address). I said Los Angeles, then he told me about his booked up schedule for the next few weeks or so. I was kinda hoping to schedule an interview when he's available in like May or so, but I didn't bring it up cause I think it'll just be pushy.

I wonder if anyone in the past wasn't granted a second interview at all??

Looking at threads in the years past, I know some people have been given the run-around when it comes to second interviews, but they've usually interviewed with Dr. Frantz the first time. So he never replied to your letter with another letter? Again looking at threads past, Dr. Frantz sometimes gives out his contact information in semi-personalized response letters to applicants he's interested in.

Strange how he's already booked. 😕

Well he said that he was booked with "Other stuff", whatever that means (I think he meant non-admission related stuff). I guess it's not possible to second interview everyone on the waitlist, but I don't know what to think.

So before talking to dr. Frantz, I was on the phone with an office staff. She said she "remembered" seeing my letter of intent, and she did find a letter that was mailed to me one week ago, but it was a confirmation that I'm on the waitlist.

I don't know all the stuff on the letters b/c I have them sent to my Hong Kong address (Same for all future mailings)

P.S. Do you know of anyone who was DECLINED a second interview (I guess those who interviewed with Dr. Frantz the first time) eventually got off the waitlist?

i, being the ***** that i am, have somehow misplaced my waitlist confirmation. could somebody please PM me the dean's full name? thank you my new best friend.

And please, don't raise this thread back up for a while 🙄 ...it scares the **** out of me everytime I see it.

(I know, I'm not helping my case by posting - oh well)
