I know P&S refers to columbia but what is P&S? What does it stand for?

I guess Dean Frantz's letter means absolutely nothing at all:
"Although it is too soon to know definitely how things will go this year, I can assure you that we will keep you very strongly in mind. I think you would enjoy being a student at P & S, and from a purely personal point of view I may say that it would give me real pleasure to have you with us."
I agree with loomis, it truly is a crapshoot!
Congrats to all who have gotten in though, P & S is a great school!

did anyone else get this letter from frantz? i'm just wondering why he'd say this to ppl he wasn't going to accept. i got the EXACT same letter and got waitlisted...now i think that he just says this to everyone he interviews. ahh well...more drama to the upenn decision i guess.

By "standard" waitlist letter do you mean the same letter that was posted above?

Why does Columbia interview so many people and get all of their hopes up and then flood them with this "highly ranked waitlist" mumbo jumbo? I'm glad I didn't get an interview, there's no way I would have made it but I feel sorry for the people who did get one and fell in love with the school, etc.

For those of you who got waitlisted, are you planning to send an LOI along with the "hold place" reply?
Since the only way to get off the waitlist at P&S seems to be an LOI stating you'll definitely go there if accepted, the LOI would have to wait for other schools' decisions and financial aid packages. In addition, I don't want to make a commitment to P&S if they don't offer an estimate of the fin aid package I'd be getting.
What do you guys think?

Since Columbia is non-AMCAS, maybe they did mail it to your permanent address. I realized that since I applied over the summer, I never gave them the corrected preferred address separately. So I got my interview invite and my waitlist letter 🙂( ) at my permanent address, where my parents called to tell me the decision.

Only thing I can add is that my reply to a thank you note included a direct reference to the person who interviewed me. Mine didn't say anything above except for the "strongly in mind" part. Either way, sounds like he sends alot of these out to strong candidates.

Yea, I just got my waitlist letter today...finally.
Since Columbia P&S is my first choice, I'll pursue the waitlist, but with such a large waitlist, it's hard to tell what will happen.

Calbee, I thought you wanted more love from the Chi-town schools? 😉

A quick question for those of you that have been accepted at Columbia or might know how the process works.
Since colombia is a non AMCAS school, does the May 15th deadline for multiple acceptances still apply to them.
Also, after accepting an offer for admission to colombia is one then solely committed to attending.
These might be really silly questions. I know how this works for AMCAS schools but Columbia appears to do everything differently.
Thanks guys

I am so freaking frustrated with Columbia. I still have received no letter. I live in NJ so it's not like I am in Alaska where I would have to wait. I called them today and they said they mailed my letter out Thursday (I am assuming that means rejection! Waitlists were probably mailed weds, acceptances tues). It is tuesday and no letter still. I got something from Mt Sinai in two days so I don't know what is going on. And they won't tell me a thing on the phone, just *wait for it*.
It's like I know I've been rejected, but getting the silly letter would give me some closure.
Anyone else not receive a letter yet that technically should have (being on the East Coast and all?).

I was trying to meet with Dr. Frantz for the coveted second interview (My first interviewer was someone else), but he said that he was all booked up for the next few weeks, but said I might be able to do that in the future instead.
Did anyone succeed in scheduling a second-interview with him?

Hmm interesting, I personally know of at least one person who's already second interviewed with Frantz. When did you get this info from him, Calbee?

I sent in a letter about the second interview, and the letter is dated 3/5. Then I called again today (3/23). Dr. Frantz first asked me where I live now (B/c I indicated that I want my future mailing to go to my Hong Kong permanent address). I said Los Angeles, then he told me about his booked up schedule for the next few weeks or so. I was kinda hoping to schedule an interview when he's available in like May or so, but I didn't bring it up cause I think it'll just be pushy.
I wonder if anyone in the past wasn't granted a second interview at all??

Looking at threads in the years past, I know some people have been given the run-around when it comes to second interviews, but they've usually interviewed with Dr. Frantz the first time. So he never replied to your letter with another letter? Again looking at threads past, Dr. Frantz sometimes gives out his contact information in semi-personalized response letters to applicants he's interested in.
Strange how he's already booked. 😕
