I will be a P3 in the Fall. I got an intern job offer from a small Ohio-based chain. They only offered $11/hour.

Is this a reasonable rate?

EDIT: I was told this is their standard rate and that all P3's get paid the same

As an intern, you are lucky to have a job much less than getting paid for it... but yes.

I would be more focused on things like... what is their offer rate after I graduate? Does my time with them now count toward my years with the company? Is the preceptor going to teach me a lot? Does the pharmacy have a lot of exposure to all sorts of drugs? What is the intern experience like?

For example- at CVS, they count the years you were with the company toward your vacation pay. If you have 5 years with the company, you have an extra week of vacation which is worth approximately 3k a year... and is peanuts to a dollar here or there while you are an intern because you are working PT hours anyway.

11 seems low.

Florida is 13-14 usually. I know a few with target who get 16

I feel sort of insulted at the lowball offer. I was making $12/hr as an uncertified tech almost a decade ago. Several years of experience and 2 years of pharmacy school should bring up my value a bit.

I'm going to be a P3. We bump up $15 base, and then $2 shift diff. for evenings. All of our shifts are in the evening so $17/hr. My one friend who works at a different hospital is going to be a P3, as well. However, as a P2 she got $15.90 base with $3 shift diff for evenings and $5 weekend shift diff. Just CRAZY MONEY!

I'm surprised they hired a P3 intern. P1 interns usually start at that rate

11-13 is common for P3 or imo first year of professional pharmacy school with 3 more years to go.

OP... sorry, are you graduating 2018 or 2016?

If 2016... 11 dollars is extremely low...

if 2018... accurate.

Although to be fair, if you are graduating 2016... PLEASE understand that you are late into the game and any experience is better than non. (Pharm Tech experience don't count).

Sorry about the ambiguity.
I just completed my P2 year. I will be a P3 in the fall.

I am in a 4-year program and I will graduate in 2017

They sent me pay listings for each year:
P1 $9.00
P2 $10.00
P3 $11.00
P4 $12.00

Those rates are below minimum wage in some areas 🙁

That's low

This is pretty common for my area.

P1- $12.50
P2- $13.50
P3- $14.50
P4- $15.50

I just left a hospital in my area where the pay was as follows:

P1 $13.00/hr
P2 $14.00/hr
P3 $15.00/hr
P4 $16.00/hr

I'm starting elsewhere at $20.26/hr.

edit: I'm also class of 2017.

Lowest retail I know in my area is Target, $13/h for 1st year

That's funny. Highest retail I know I'm my area is target at $16.50 for first year. I wonder why such a difference.

Because you can replace or outperform the regular, full-time tech who serves as the backbone of the pharmacy while you're in school? You're there to learn. They're providing you that opportunity, and even paying you, to boot. Be grateful.

It is low... but once again, interns are not worth much.

I respect my interns as future colleagues, but I am basically an un-paid teacher.

A lot of interns don't know anything about pharmacy, some of them are cocky and out right dangerous because they think they know everything but knows nothing, a lot of them can not put in the hours to get the full intern experience, etc.

I would rather pay a tech whom I know will be at my pharmacy when ever I need them, do not require much training, and will put in 100 percent because their job is their top priority.

An awesome intern is worth their weight in gold... and my ROI even for a year or two is well worth it. Its just that there are very few of them, and the bad ones outweighs the good ones as each year passes. (Kids getting lazier or dumber? I don't know)...

what if we are talking about a former tech (3 yrs of exp.) with rank and consistently getting good performance reviews + raises...and is to go to pharm school and turn intern? would you consider someone like that more valuable; ie take it into consideration for their pay grade.

Im asking for friend of course ;-]

Former tech? How former are we talking? If they've had a year or more off, this person would get the same rate as any other intern. Again, the intern is there to learn. Suck up the "low" wage that's higher than some techs' for a few years. Somehow you'll manage.

Add me to the opinion of 'experience outweights pay'. You need to limit your learning curve as much as possible before getting licensed. That said, I'm about to start my final year and am making $14.50. Also have friends @ rite aid ($15/hr) and Osco ($15.50/hr). Good luck
