Hello out there!

I am looking to apply to Pacific University in Oregon for 2010. I heard from someone I work with that Pacific is having issues with gaining their accreditation! Has anyone else heard this?

He's a pretty reliable guy, and seems to be in the know about stuff as he is also working toward pharmacy school, but I was shocked to hear this!

Thanks to all who can help with confirmation of truth or fiction!

I will be applying there this fall too. While Pacific hasn't received full accreditation yet, there doesn't seem to be a problem to my knowledge. They should be getting their accreditation pretty soon.

I have been accepted to Pacific for Fall 2009 matriculation. During the informational session at my interview in February, Dr. Bonnarens (Assistant Dean for Student Affairs) stated (and I'm paraphrasing here) that Pacific is progressing very nicely through the accreditation process, has had no 'hiccups' in the process so far, and expects no problems in gaining full accreditation once the first class graduates this Spring. He said they Pacific has taken every precaution in ensuring that its accreditation process goes smoothly.

So, as far as I know, there are no problems. You can always contact the school and they'd be able to tell you exactly where this issue stands. Good luck in your applications next year! 🙂

The ACPE Evaluation team was at the campus March 11th - they were hanging out for a few days. From all reports, they liked what they saw.

They had a question about the lack of research labs - Pacific is getting ready to build another building across the street (it has been passing through the legislation process for zoning). Currently, Pacific professors have been using the OHSU labs - which has been adequate until the new building is up.

They also had questions about the number of faculty to student ratio. As has been the case with many new schools - Pacific is still hiring new faculty. They have hired a new professor within the past few weeks - and have interviewed two other strong candidates. This is not considered a deal breaker, but Pacific does have to show that they are hiring new staff.

That is the current state of affairs. I would be very surprised if a pre-pharmacy student knew more about the ACPE accreditation process than our dean and student focus group - who have been incredibly transparent about the entire process.

I would have your "reliable" source check their source before they continue to send FALSE information.

Thanks to everyone who replied! You all confirmed what I thought to be the case with the accreditation process, as I have been following it very closely!

Perhaps my co-worker was just embracing the date and tried to get one over on me 😛

As far as I know they liked us very much and other schools have contacted us to help them out with their accreditation because we did a good job on ours! It's rumors. Our school has very strong students and professors and I don't say this because I go here...We place 10th place in national competitions and you already know how many pharmacy schools are out there and we have only been open for three years...but the main campus started 1849 so we have years of experience in educating students 🙂

I'm usually on rumors like white on rice, and I haven't heard anything but good things about Pacific U. That, and you can take whatever aboveliquidice says straight to the bank.

I have been watching the accreditation status like a hawk for that school and that was why I was so surprised when I heard from my co-worker that there were some issues! When he said that, I said "No there are not!", but it was one of those bugs that had been planted and I really had to seek out some more views, so I came home and posted right away on here, knowing that someone would know for sure what the heck was going on!

Aboveliquidice has offered up a lot of good information in previous posts as well and I appreciate all of the information that everyone has contributed to help me confirm my suspicions! 😀
