don't play the game. you're going to college to learn and experience new things. enjoy your 4 years and don't be obsessive about trying to get into medical school.

take the classes that interest you, not that you will get the best grade in. while gpa is important, medical schools want to see you challenging yourself and taking classes that interest you. schools don't want a cookie cutter applicant and by retaking classes from high school, all you are doing is shortening the time in which you could be developing critical thinking skills (something that is actually important for med school and beyond).

You can't dive into upper level courses without having a strong basis on the fundamentals. I don't think OP has a good grasp of introductory calc.

See, in principle, I totally agree with you. I'm a firm believer in the idea that education is an end in itself, and I am 100% against this new trend that considers university as simply a "means to an end", i.e, that the value of a degree is its ability to get you a job.

Reading, thinking, conversing...all these things are ends in themselves. I hate it when people ask "what's the point of reading philosophy? What will it do for me"?, because they miss the point.

The thing is, it's impossible to be like that nowadays because of the strong emphasis placed on the game...especially for wannabe medical students. I wish university was like it was back in the day (like Middle Ages lol), but it's not unfortunately.
