In rotations, is it possible to get paid for hours or do most students intern on the side? I am asking because I need to know how far loans will take me. Thanks.

rotations= free labor
You'll have to intern outside of school for money.

Yeah.. rotations aren't just free labor.. you're actually PAYING to work :laugh:

Might as well intern to make monies - esp. if you have to rack up a certain number of hours to get your license.

I interned at Childrens Hospital LA... in 1991, pay was 11.83/hr.. in 1994 it was up to 13.80 or so...

The epitome of Free Labor: USC's IV rotation at the USC/LAC dungeon. 👍

I have spoken to a couple of students who are currently on rotations and the concensus is that it depends where your rotation is. Most students said that there was no free time (ie they had to prepare presentations/read papers). The other ones said there might be time but that there's no way you feel like going to work after working 8-12 hr shifts. Also, it's hard to gauge how long you'll be on your rotation for that particular day. With a lot of rotations you don't just come in at 9 and leave at 5, every day would vary.

What year are you?? The reason I ask is because if you're just entering you'll have plenty of time to save up money in the summer (if you got to a 4 year school). Also you won't need to take out the money all at once, you can just take it out at the beginning of the school year. Also, if you're going to a state school, the loans you get will be distributed at the beginning of each semester. Good luck!

Thanks Trancelucent and everyone! I think I will just try racking up the monies during summers. Yes, I am just entering, and luckily I have this time as a tech to worry about furniture and new expenses for the upcoming year.
