Does anyone know anyone that has done a hospice/palliative care fellowship? I'd like to talk to someone with any insight into this and future career opportunities after such a fellowship. Thanks for anyone's help!

I know a couple of physiatrists who did palliative care fellowships that are now out in private practice. PM me and I can try to hook you up.

There’s also a hospice/palliative med forum here on SDN, but it doesn’t seem to get much traffic. Should be a quick read.

I know there are physiatrists that have as a significant portion of their practice the treatment of malignant pain.

Given that the two specialties seek to decrease pain and suffering and to maximize functioning within the constraints of a given diagnosis, and that most PM&R patients carry diagnoses with varying degrees of life-span diminution, PM&R and H&PM is a natch.

It's my current career plan.

i'm doing it now. not actually completing a fellowship, but i'm in the midst of a "mentorship." i will be eligible to sit for the h&pm boards under the experiential track when it is next offered 10/10. i very seriously considered pursuing a fellowship, but then found an opportunity to join a palliative care team with a couple of docs that were interested in guiding me through the learning curve. just simply jumped into mix after residency completion, learning much as i go. there are a plethora of similarities in philosophy and practice between pm&r and h&pm and a physiatric presence certainly compliments the multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary approach to end-of-life care. the blending of the two feels very intuitive for me. pm me if you want to chat about my experience.
