Hi!

I'm just now starting the process of applying for an AEGD through PASS. I was wondering if anyone had any advice they might want to pass on, in terms of the application, essay, interviewing, match strategies...

Is there anything you learned along the way, anything you wished you had known before you started applying?

Thanks for any advice you've got!

Just keep all of your application materials organized. Make a checklist and check items off when you've sent them in to the programs. When you start to receive the blue (or green) confirmation cards from the programs that particpate in PASS, call the program directly to see if what they marked is correct. Keeping an orderly record of what you've sent to whom, and what programs you've heard back from, will make the stress of it all a little easier.

Ditto what he said. CALL each program to make sure PASS sent all your stuff. PASS is notoriously incompetent and I hear stories every year about how they didn't send an application to certain programs. The burden is on you to call each program to make sure they received what they should have.

Was wondering how we are supposed to keep our essay so short?? It is supposed to be just 5200 characters! Isn't that too short to say all you want to say usually? Any tips?

How many weeks prior to the PASS deadlines did you all submit your PASS applications?

You don't want to write too much. Don't make your essay too cliche or wordy. No FLUFF. Don't be too idealistic either.

Get your stuff in to PASS A.S.A.P! The sooner your materials are completed and out to programs, the better for you. It shows some organization, initiative and quite frankly saves you more stress in the long run.

Good Luck!

Is the PASS essay similar to one that you wrote for dental school, but obviously geared towards your specialty of interest?

Ex: My name is Ludwigs Vagina and I am interested in _______ for this reason. I came to this conclusion after I fell and a doctor who is in this specialty helped me with my ______. Insert altruistic stuff here. The things I have done to pursue this specialty are _______, ________, and _______. Insert more bum kissery here. End it with some wit and intelligence.

Yes? No? 😕

Thank you! Another question- when did you all send official copies of NDBE scores, dental transcripts etc. to the individual schools? At the same time as sending it to PASS or after e-submitting PASS applications and making sure the schools received your applications?

Thanks.
