OMFS Non-Categorical Internship Opening - TWO POSITIONS REMAINING

Website: Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery » College of Dentistry » University of Florida

The University of Florida College of Dentistry, Department of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery in Gainesville, FL offers 2 one-year non-categorical internship (NCI) positions for dentists preparing to apply to OMS residency training programs who are interested in gaining an additional year of education with hands-on experience in oral and maxillofacial surgery, beyond that which is taught during dental school. The non-categorical Internship position is twelve months in length.

The NCI position provides clinical training in the full scope of oral and maxillofacial surgery; patient care responsibilities are commensurate with categorical OMS interns. OMS interns will be rotating through UFHealth/Shands – a level 1 trauma center. OMS interns will also have experience in operating room cases.

In addition to an immersive clinical training experience, NCI’s participate in the OMS Residency Program’s robust didactic learning environment alongside current OMS residents and may have access to research opportunities. Although not required, it is our goal for each NCI to complete a reviewed publication during the year.

Duration: 12 Months

Salary: Stipend: $45,000 plus health, life and disability insurance

Eligibility: Qualified Candidates must have a DDS/DMD from a U.S. or Canadian accredited Dental School and are U.S. citizens, or U.S. Permanent Residents, and must submit all required program application materials by the application deadline. You do not need to have a Florida Dental License to apply.

Application Deadline: The application cycle for admissions to the 2025-2026 internship year is April 15, 2025.

Application:

Please submit your PASS Program application with your Current CV, and (recommended but not required) your NBME CBSE exam score report (if available) by email to: Patricia Carpenter, OMS Program Assistant at: pcarpenter@dental.ufl.edu or Danielle Freburg-Hoffmeister, DDS, MD, OMS Program Director at: dfreburg-hoffmeister@dental.ufl.edu

This internship is a great opportunity to get exposure to full-scope OMFS including Trauma, Infection, Head and Neck cancer, Pediatric craniofacial, Dentoalveolar, etc. There is no difference between non-categorical intern and residents. In addition, the non-categorical intern will rotate at a community dental clinic with full autonomy developing extraction skills, patient management, and working with other dentists. Compensation is PGY-1 salary with benefits. Great OMFS matching rates after the internship.
