Patent vessels - what is meant?

Hey,

The falciform ligament contains "patent paraumbilical veins". Why do they write "patent" in this case?

Members don't see this ad.
 
It just means the vessels are flowing normally, i.e. not blocked or obstructed. Same term can be used to describe almost any normal lumen.
