Good attitude but there are plenty of people who dont match and even more who dont match in fields they want.

Yes, but that usually isn't because of the system. It is because they didn't apply to enough programs, or they didn't rank correctly.
Every year there are hospitals that have to scramble, and usually that is for the same reason.

If you look at all fields but plastics, rad-onc, derm, and radiology, as long as you hit the minimum number of programs, you will get a spot (unless you have an Axis II disorder, or an Axis I that you can't hide during the interview).

Or unless you are doing the couples match.
 
No objections here. Would be nice to hear about something other than science (can you tell I'm ready to quit for the night?).

Add urology and others. Dont be fooled into a false sense of security.. Many people didnt match cause they werent "smart" enough.. anyways i dont want to argue too much.. im just saying i dont agree.

Well, that's one of those tough things. I don't think that the world would be any less competitive if the match didn't exist. And thus, people with lower GPAs and board scores wouldn't get into residencies regardless. Similar to how people try to get jobs at really nice firms. If you don't have the shiny paperwork, you aren't getting in. There aren't enough to go around.

All I'm saying is that if you had the scores to get 10 ranks, you got a spot greater than 99% (475 of 477) of the time in EM last year. With 8 ranks, you only went down to 736 of 746.

I dont have the same knowledge of the stats but families get spread out because of this.. IMO this is bad. o/w people could would have a better shot at ending up where they wanted..
 
overall u r right though. most people get one of their top 3.. Geography matters BTW as it is the # 1 reason places get ranked where they do..

Well, I did worse once. Other team got their assignments messed up and somehow Roy was defending against me. Roy was about 4'10" and weighed maybe 80 or less. I told him to get out of the way, I didn't want to hurt him. So the ball was snapped and he rolled himself into a ball. I tripped over him and fell flat on my face.😳

He didn't try that twice though.

I thought hockey was a defensive game.

got off early today (on my pager, but at home) 🙂

almost kinda makes up for the fact that I have to spend 4 hrs of tomorrow representing my program at a residency fair.
 
hopefully my ptsd symptoms related to pregnant women will go away..
