At 'work' aka stuffing envelopes. How stupid is that? I'm a f**king doctor, and I'm earning $10 an hour doing brainless crap.

Thankfully, the license is coming! Yay medicine!

wow insane. you made more being a resident.

So much to learn.. it is seriously amazing how much is out there that I *should* know!

i hope it doesnt take 4 days to get to the next page..

can i tell you how much people wasting our time in our EDs is starting to bother me.

Some guy who has no more money on his food stamp card (which is what they use now) tries to buy groceries.. has no more money.. starts with I have CP call the ambulance (dude is a frequent flier). Gets a sandwich pulls out his IV and elopes.. The ambulance and care probably cost taxpayers $4-500. Should have given him a meal at some place nice.. It would have been cheaper.

FWIW I blame this bs on the trial attorneys.. IMO we should not allow this guy into the ED (we know him). And *if* he has an MI and bites the bullet then it should fall under a new law called "the boy who cried wolf law"..

Wasnt even my patient just annoying.

no it is scary. My attendings just seem to know so much.. gives me the drive to get as good as they are.

You think it is a product of repetition maybe?

Oh...how studying takes so much time.

more house bs tomorrow.. the house is starting to look awesome though..

im gonna finish the threshold in one room tomorrow..

party!

EF: how long after graduating from med school does a person typically wait to take Step III? Also, how much time passes until the results are received and then how much longer until you get your license.

This is an interesting question because I just asked one of my attendings this same thing. Many say that if you go into EM the longer you wait the better you will do because much of the content is "emergency care". That said most people I think take it sometime during 2nd yr this way they can moonlight during 3rd yr. This being said I know someone who took it either just before or after they graduated from med school, my attending took it during his pgy-3. I dont know how long it takes to get the results though but I imagine it is like step 2. Then to get your license you have to apply with your state. This can take a while but I guess this would depend on your state.

Sorry I couldnt be clearer.

(that was a padding opportunity but I think i had to get the message out!)

Two of my friends (one gas, one rads) both took it and passed after finishing med school, but before starting residency.

I forgot about it, and took it ~4 months before the end of residency, and passed. With EM, it's win-win. Take it as an intern, and all the stuff from med school or what you're learning as an intern is fresh. Take it later on, and you are tested on a lot (but not all) of what you're doing all day, every day. It's not like peds or OB that have to relearn/review CHF and Alzheimer's before they take it.

I certainly will be taking it during my intern year, so I can moonlight.

All about the Benjamins.

Most places dont let you moonlight until you are a pgy-3..

However, there are a fair number that do let you moonlight as a 2. So getting it done before then makes more sense to me. It all comes down to where I end up though, so if the place I work doesn't let me moonlight, then there isn't a need to take the test.

post pad...time to study...time to make up for lost time this week. I am actually trying to keep up this section, otherwise I know I will not pass...have the whole weekend to learn the 19 lectures from this week...and go grocery shopping of course

19 lectures in one weekend?!? You must be a machine. I think my record is 10!!

I tend to aim high, but I can't afford to fall behind either. Hopefully there is a little overlap in some of them (I swear I paid attention in class...just been a long week). What I have left I can add to Tuesday's stuff.
