PGY-3 reminds me of ZP3 one of the proteins of the zona that I'm learning about in reproductive bio class... just thought I would boost the Emergency medicine up...I love it... Going to AZCOM next year maybe.

Quick Q the fetus' auto is due for some new brake shoes and pads anyone with suggestions to save some money. I wont be doing this myself. My lease is up in 6 weeks and basically they wont take the car back with the current brakes. Advice anyone?
 
Won't Sam's Club or Costco do minimal auto repairs. I know they do tires, and mine were CHEAP!

I am a costco member every costco I have seen does tires only. No oil changes or brakes or mufflers or anything else. There must be a huge markup in tires for them to do only that.
 
My dad "knows a guy" and my brakes were still more than anyone should pay (I own a Volvo). Are there any little "neighborhood" repair shops - you know, not Meineke or Midas or a chain, just a dilapidated white building and a couple of really old mechanics?

If so, try those for pricing 🙂.

this is my next plan.. calling around prices have ranged from 137 @ Sears to 235 at the dealership...$165 at midas..
 
If I were in florida I know a guy who could probably do it for my for like $60 but im far far from there..

Have you tried to look in the phonebook for small name shops? If you can find one where it is just a dude doing them at his house, it is usually close to cost. Not sure if this is everywhere though. It worked when I was in Gainesville, Florida for the warm part of my life. Not sure if it flies in Chicago. If not, disregard this post and consider it +pad+ ing.

Ehh i think ill wait for my lease inspection and see if they think i need new breaks. I just dont want to have to pay $500 (for both) when I could do it for half of that.. Thanks for the thoughts I will do what you mentioned above.
 
you know that in the US we dont even realize we have neighbors. 🙂

Since we are just post padding instead of talking about anything in particular, I will share a story. Gather around children. Today I had this pediatrics exam. Sort of essay-type deal. So the history gave me Glenn as a patient. In writing my answer I fitted Glenn with the last name McFattypants. :laugh:

Now this could go in my favor or REALLY not. The grader will either think I am a tool (which I can live with) or funny (which is OK as well). Now if it is some old school prof who thinks medicine is "serious business missy!" than I might get worked. We'll have to see.

As for my motive... not sure. For some reason, McFattypants just seemed to belong with Glenn. 😀

The ole medicine sub-i caught up with me and after not doing a "real" rotation for a few months I got hit up with FIVE complex cases in one day
 
Some pretty unlucky patients such as guy comes in with left neck pain. The over the course of a little over a week gets dxed with......
 
Then to top it off 2 colonic masses which are suspected cancer..
 
Bottom line was I got killed today.... I had no idea how to get a consult, everyone has a weird or different number... a disaster.. I was *supposed* to leave at 3..... that obviously didnt happen... Only 1 month of medicine at the residency spot...
 
I spent 75% of my time paging, repaging and chasing my tail... first days suck...especially when you get complex patients that you know nothing about...
 
Cant wait for this bs to be over... i guess the bright side is it is only 4 weeks and if anything confirms i made the right decision when residency selection time came around..

I fondly look back at my rads days.. at least i can honestly say this is a little wake up call pre-residency...

Most days of radiology for me this month have been 1 hour lecture, then home. Tomorrow I actually have 2 hour long lectures 😱

I will be DONE with fourth year on 4/27, then the next day is my birthday! 😀
