I've seen some permanently nastified crocs worn by OB residents. Some things are just beyond salvage. 😱

Lots of social events here Pretty cool.. I dont work my 1st shift until Thursday.. We have a month of orientation so the 1st month is all ED..

my co-prelims haven't been too social. i don't know what's with them. maybe they just have their own friends here and i'm stuck sucking my thumb in a corner in fetal position?

what kind of laptop did you get for $399? and where?

A Compaq (v2552, I believe) at CompUSA. On sale - but limited stock. It's very basic, and will not support Windows Vista when it comes out, but I don't really care about all that so I went for it.

So I know I am a "bad" person but... does it make me "evil" that after watching the "Al Gore movie" as I like to refer to it...

I have decided that my next car will def be an SUV..

One of my co-interns was not pleased... Ahh the extra room....

None of my co-interns are from here and none have gone to the same medical school so basically no one really knows anyone else.. Hence we socialize..

Just for watching the Al Gore movie you are indeed evil.

The latest pair were lost to a patient who had bleeding EV's. There's no way to get all the blood out of them. And I really liked those shoes too. :meanie:

Watch out for anything OB!

Trust me, I do. An OB call is one of the few calls for the VFD/rescue that I will not respond to unless no one else does. I don't like puking that much.

I have started on Nephrology...I am not a fan of medicine. I have actually learned a lot in only 8 days on the job, but I really miss the dept. I LOVE working in the ED...thus the reason I went into EM. But my decision has really been solidified since I am on an off service rotation.

Today was an awesome day on Neph b/c, I walk onto the floor, a pt is CRAZY screaming, F this and F that and don't touch me bitch and F you, etc...then I go to round on my new pick up, lift up his gown to look at his L femoral dialysis cath...BRIGHT RED MUCOUSY DIARRHEA!!! Sad for him, awesome for me, finally something to be urgent about. Next pt on rounds, we walk into the room, she is "panting" wheezing and B lower extremities are markedly edematous. Not my pt, but I blurt out (cuz I am excited that something is finally happening) we should get an upright CXR, stat EKG, enzymes, etc...I was so glad that this happened this morning, because the "high" of managing acutely a serious illness/condition (rather than monitoring chronic conditions) helped me get through the day. I love EM!!!!

For all of the old timers out there I know that these things prob aren't exciting to you, but honestly, I have been reporting on the amount of fluid pulled off each day for dialysis. Anything is more exciting than that.

All that being said, I wanna be in the dept.

Al Gore and his "people" hate us.. 😀 Im fine with that..Too much PC-ness is too much for me..

So it's 0407 (my shift officially ended at 0100) and I'm psyching myself up to try to drive home. I don't want to drink coffee because I'm planning to go to sleep when/if I make it. You can't do the open window, cold air in your face trick in Vegas in July, it's 88 degrees out now. Ug.

Napoleon, Ohio....Sounds scary dude. I try to stay away from any place named after a crazy dictator. Especially, a crazy french dictator.

Quite scary.... My husband's family is from that area. It feels like you are stepping back in time. Twilight zone, anyone?

Don't know if this works for anyone else but when I am hurting so bad for sleep and have to drive home... I sing at the top of my lungs with something I really like and something upbeat-ish. A little wiggle/dance action also takes place within the restrictions of the bucket seat. Just an idea for those that are not too embarassed by themselves.

I just tend to sing along to something loud, fast and obnoxious.

Anything is more exciting than that.

I'll see your "how much fluid did we get today?" and raise you my "My baby has a fever, the pediatrician told me to give her Motrin, but she's still running a 99.1 temp" EMS call at 12:30 am this morning.

If anyone questions why I believe we should be allowed to involuntarily sterilize certain people or at very least force long acting birth control upon them, that case is an example.

It has nothing to do with viewing people as inferior genetically, it just has everything to do with people who keep me from getting sleep.

In my EMS days, we had a fantasy "one bullet a month" ration to be used against those not likely to contribute to mankind in any meaningful manner. You had to show restraint, as if you used your bullet too early in the month, you were likely to come across someone much more deserving of it. Use it too late and you missed your chance.

I know, it was cynical. But it did help vent the frustration of those 3am calls because "I have to spit too much", "I had a nightmare", or "I can't sleep."

The old adage about: "EMS- Battling the forces of natural selection since 1964" is so true.....as I pointed out to one of my friends who is a biology grad student "What you call natural selection, I call passive eugenics."

I like the bullet quota. Shame we can't actually do that for real. BTW, could you use it on coworkers (or cops and firefighters) or was it limited to patients only?

Am I the only one who thinks we need to trim the number of stickies in the forum?
Way too many stickies.. agreed... keeps this from reaching the top!

I tihnk if those things are worthy enough of being "stickies" they wont fall too far down..

DrMom said:
yup.

an alternative to having a bunch of stickies is to have a single sticky with links to other threads of interest.
Str8 Genius!!!

are you suggesting this thread be made a sticky? 😛

OMG can i just tell you how much scut this hospital have? everything needs to be filled out in some sort of duplicate or triplicate form. and don't even get me started on the number of forms for orders. blegh. i hate red tape.
