Quick pay question. Going from O-3 with <2 years to O-3 with 2 years is a $500 a month raise. Do the four 45 day periods (180 days) spent on active duty as an HPSP med student count toward that period such that pay should go up half-way through PGY-2, or do you have to wait until the end of PGY-2 for the pay to increase?

Provided you have no other military time. When you supercede to LT from med school your clock for pay starts over completely. No credit is given for any of the time in the HPSP program.(or even USUHS for that matter.)

Of course, sometimes the bureaucrats don't figure it out and pay you as an 0-3 with 7 when you come out of residency. SSSHHHH! (Yes, I'm saving the money because I know they're going to ask for it back at any time.)

You are a smart man, because even though they pay you the extra pay in increments they always want it back in one big chunk.
