PBL PCOM Georgia

Do you maybe have PCOM-GA confused w/LECOM-B? Bradenton is the only school I know of that is strictly PBL, but I haven't researched all schools. I am, however, applying to PCOM-GA and I have not heard of it even having a PBL option. Its curriculum, if I remember correctly, is based on that of PCOM-Philly.

Here is my understanding of PBL thus far, not having actually seen or experienced it personally. PBL, in short, is a case study based style of learning, as opposed to strictly lectures. It's a very independent form of learning in that you have to discipline yourself to really dig into the material, but you do have the resource of a small group to work with on the case studies.

We use PBL from time to time in my masters programs... it might be different at LECOM, but when we have a PBL it means we get together in groups of about 10-15 students and we read a case together. There are various questions embedded in the case to provoke us to discuss the important points. It's definitely useful and helps me to remember things easier than just trying to memorize them from a lecture or reading a chapter in a book. However, I still am debating whether or not I would like to have this be the only style of learning available to me. Just be sure it's something that really fits your personal learning style because you don't want to get stuck hating it and not do very well because you are more of a lecture-based learner. Just my two cents.
