PCOM Discussion thread 2007-2008

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I was complete back in Sep and I'm an OOS with decent stats (above avg.) Haven't heard anything from PCOM, not even a rejection letter.

Anyone received a decision letter for the last set of interviews? I am just wondering if they are on the way.

has anyone received a letter yet? We were supposed to have them last week!

Is PCOM done inviting people for interviews? Last time I called they said my file was being reviewed. I'm getting a bit nervous, but already have an acceptance elsewhere. Would love to get into PCOM though.

Where were you accepted?

anyone else think the lady that answers the phone for admissions at pcom is a real brat??
every time i call she is so rude to me and usually hangs up the phone without even a goodbye. kinda makes me wonder how the rest of PCOM is structured, and quite honestly.....turns me off to the school.

I called today, and whoever it was that answered in Admissions was really nice. I wouldn't let that turn you off from the school. All of the faculty are really great.

I'm pretty sure they're still interviewing here. They just started inviting biomeds for interviews, so I'd assume they'll be interviewing till the end of march.

It's been 3 weeks since I interviewed, and still no letter. Anyone else in the same situation? Anyone know when we should be hearing back from admissions?

same situation here...three weeks tomorrow with no word. I am getting so anxious!! 😕

Those of you who have received interviews, what are your stats? and are you instate or out of state?

I just interviewed recently. I called the admissions office today to ask when the admissions committe is meeting. I said, "I know they meet about every 3 weeks, but do you know if they have met recently, or if they are scheduled to meet soon?" the guy who answered the phone said that he didnt know when they were scheduled to meet, but that they havent met in a while and that they should be meeting soon.

I think the previous posts about them meeting on 2/4 or 2/5 were bogus. They will probably meet mid month as usual, either at the end of this week or early next week I'd imagine.

Good luck to all those waiting.

Actually, they did meet on 2/5. I got a phone call letting me know. I also spoke with the guy who answers the phones yesterday and he told me that they had met and that the letters do take some time to process and were indeed sent out either at the end of last week or early this week (sorry for the run on sentence). For those who interviewed in January, the letters should arrive no later than the weekend.

Thanks UD, I think you may be right too...they are a little vague on the phone sometimes but I would imagine we january people (and maybe early february) should hear soon.

When I interviewed on 2/6, the lady said we had just missed adcom and that we would hear from them in a month. So it's quite possible that they met the 5th. I know a lot of school do adcom on Wednesdays so it doesn't seem farfetched.

they did meet in between mid month and now as I interviewed mid jan and got a decision last week

they did meet on 2/5, i saw them. i don't know what the hold up is with the letters, they usually are out much faster. i apologize to those who i told were getting them last week, obviously something has changed this week. word on the street is the class is getting full and there are subcommittee meetings too...etc.

The class is definitely filling up fast, cause they've started on the biomeds. I'm interviewing March 24th. So late, but at least it's an interview.

I've heard that they meet the first tuesday of every month, but then I also heard that they're supposed to meet the 26th of this month. Who knows. Good luck to you all.

I interviewed at the end of January (invite at the end of December). I have a 3.7 GPA (cum and science) with a 29 MCAT (8,10,11). I am an out of state applicant with an LOR from a PCOM alum and 2 MD letters. My mentor (the PCOM grad) called them for me several times prior to my interview, but I don't know what difference this made. I have not heard anything from them about a decision, but hopefully soon!!! :scared: Hope this sheds some light.

For the people alreay accepted, is the envelope thick or thin?

:clap:YES!!!!!!!!!!! was the first word:banana::banana:

I AM SO HAPPY I DONT EVEN KNOW HOW TO CONTAIN MYSELF!!!!!!!!!

GOT THE LETTER AND WAS NERVOUS.....I WAS LIKE OK DEEP BREATHE.
:zip:
What gave it away was i could see the "return" envelope through the letter and I saw it said "no postage necessary" so I was like why would PCOM send a rejection letter with a return envolope. I had my wife open it up and I am like COME ON SPIT IT OUT. All a saw was a Happy Tear and she said WE ARE MOVIN TO PHILLY BABY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Guess that means I am promoted to a new accepted students forum..

Celebration!!!!!!!!

Please any classmate I would love to meet ya and exchange contact info.

UPDATE: DON'T GET ME WRONG THE STUDENTS AND PROFESSORS AT UMDNJ-SOM ARE GREAT. My issue was with the two corrupted Deans who were to involved in unethical and criminal behaviors vs advocating and supporting me, I top of the class student when I was their.

Like I said its in the past and PCOM is has all my gratitude in the world for believing in me. Do a google search on Warren Wallace UMDNJ or Micheal Gallagher UMDNJ and you will find your answers

As a former DO student at UMDNJ-SOC(orrupted) (sorry just the final closing statement on what I went through there b/c of admins greed/deception and not putting a student first) I have a lot of experience to share. And I am to type to support and help my classmates in any way.

But now its a new and bright beginning!!!!!!

:hardy::hardy::hardy::hardy::hardy:

I need to buy a PCOM hat /teeshirt!!!

Not sure but I interviewed at lots of schools

Theme is if you interview then stats are out the window they already like your numbers. More importantly is if they LIKE YOU your personality, core values, commitment to medicine, compassion etc.

My stats are avg at best but I hade 4 letters of 2 MD and 2 DO letters. ANd they were heartfelt well written. that is key vs a template I school sometimes creates. Plus I have prior med school exp
successful.

:banana:ACCEPTED!!!!!!!!!!!🙂

I am at work right now and my roommate just called to tell me that I received a "Thick letter from PCOM". It wouldn't be thick if it was a rejection right? I can't wait to go home and open it!! Congrats GForce!!

I just got home and found a PCOM envelope as well. ACCEPTED!!!!!!

No word in ny- i guess tuesday or wednesday for me- sucky sucky
Congrats to all

How many people that are accepted are coming straight out of undergrad? I feel like the majority of people that I've heard about getting in took at least one year off and didn't know if that was true or not

it seems like 90% of those accepted are IS.

45ish percent of in-staters are invited for interview.

10ish percent of out-of-staters are invited.

About the same out of each of those groups is accepted... at least according to some old 2005 figures i looked at last year.. it ends up with about 60/40 instate/OOS

So I know that PCOM takes forever. I was complete at the end of November. Is it safe to say, at this point, that if I've not received an interview invite I'm probably not going to? How late did people receive invites in previous years?

I will have been out of college for five years when I start. I worked in a different industry before this and then completed a post-bac and have been working in pediatric diabetes research full time for the last two years.

Not necessarily. PCOM says they interview through March, so you still have some time to get an interview. Last year they even had a few interviews in April. Have you had interviews anywhere else?

Yeah, I have two acceptances...but I want PCOM!!!
