PCOM Discussion thread 2008-2009

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Do I know you? lol

I was referring to your "for a good time 602 1023" Isn't that Avogadro's number? I have a tshirt with that joke, cuz I was a sweet chem minor.

I don't think you know me, but its entirely possible since you and I both live in the delph, and philly is not as big as i used to dream it was. However, If you are not a phils fan, I want no parts of knowing you anyway.😛

Congrats to all that have been accepted...

anyone know when they'll be sending out more interview invites?

I just got an interview invite about 15 minutes ago.

when did you send in your app? and did they ever notify you if you were complete?

...and congrats by the way!

Thanks. I've actually been complete for about 2 months. I guess they had actually emailed me an invite a couple of weeks ago but called because I never responded. It must have gone to junkmail because I never saw it. They didn't ever notify me I was complete as far as I know (but I might have had the same spam issue).

Kind of makes me wonder if I have missed other ones....

Good luck. You might want to call and check if it has been quite a while.

I'm so glad I read your post catchburns cause I just called PCOM and found out that I've been complete for two weeks and didn't know!!! The last couple times I called to check the status of my application they told me that it could take up to four weeks to process all of my application material and that I would get a letter in the mail saying that I was complete but I never received that letter just like you. Anyway, I'm glad I'm complete and hopefully will receive an interview invite sometime soon.

Glad to report that I've got an interview for the 27th of October at PCOM-Philly! It hasn't sunk in yet, but when it does, I'll be yelling for joy.

Go Phillies.

GAH PCOM TELL ME SOMETHING!!! Compuslively checking the mail is no way to live.

I haven't heard anything from PCOM yet either. Do they send invites in the mail? The reason I am asking is because UMDNJ-Stratford called me to schedule my interview and I want to know what to expect.

question...soo ive heard that PCOM doesn't reject you until after interview season..but if you call them up is there a way of finding out if they have reviewed your application already? PCOM is my #1 choiceeeeeee and i've been complete since 9/30 and am curious if I've either been looked at and shoved aside or if my app is still awaiting its initial fate. anyone know if you can find this out?

When I called the lady I talked to said it could take four weeks to hear about an interview. So you should call them and see if your application has been reviewed cause they will tell you.

Bacchus, do you know if PCOM is gonna email us or send us a snail mail confirming that they have received the $250 deposit?

I emailed them b/c I sent it on Monday and live within Philadelphia. I wanted to know when we're getting more information. I hope they reply soon, but understand if they don't. BTW, you should join the PCOM facebook group 😉.

wow, that was quick reply. It's saturday and u didn't go out. What was that all about, Bacchus? lol, jk... Yea, I sent my check out on monday too. Since you already emailed PCOM, can you post the reply on this forum? I will really appreciate that. 😀

PCOM facebook group? Is there one for specifically c/o 2013 or just PCOM in general?

Look in my signature, you might have to go to my profile to get it. I also made a PCOM group for C/O 2013 in the Osteopathic Class Threads. I got the acceptance on the 16th, so I should have celebrated last week. I'm a humble guy, it just feels good to have gotten so many acceptances. Plus, I don't have much time to booze it up... lol.

For those of you submitting LOR from a dean or advisor make sure that in the body of your letter, the person mentions they are/were your dean/advisor explicitly. Apparently having the individuals title on the letterhead and in the signatory information is not enoguh to clue in the admissions committee.

How do you know this? Were the admissions people nice enough to tell you this and how did you clear up the situation? Thanks for the heads up!

WTF. I just called the admissions office and I was told that they do not have my MCAT scores!?!?!?! What the **** is up with that? Every other school has them so they were definitely sent out!!

I gotta call back later cause the person who would deal with this is out right now. **** this has to have delayed my application for a while. This blows, PCOM is one of my top choices.

This almost makes me paranoid enough to call up every other school I have not specifically heard from.

I'm looking at the pdf now from the aacomas site for PCOM, and it lists my mcat scores. FUIDshcfuihdualfkashfilasuhfsuaildfh 😡:bang::diebanana:

I'm sorry to hear this. I should warn you however that there was a separate box to check off to send scores to PCOM. They accept them directly from AAMC, not jus through AACOMAS. Maybe try to send them directly from the AAMC website and see what happens...

Really want an interview from PCOM!!!! Ahhhh

I received the "complete" e-mail 3 days ago so I'm hoping to get an interview soon! I sent in all my materials almost 2 months ago!

YEah I had both selected to be safe. Like I said, the score was in the PDF for pcom. FFFFUFFJ

Anyway I called them. All they had for me was the original aacomas application, not the updated one which included my mcat scores. The woman in the admissions office was able to download the update, so NOW my file is complete. DAmn. Month late for no good reason. Hope my chances aren't affected too badly.

You were awesome, I hope you all decide on PCOM. I was lucky to have interviewed with such a great group. It made it that much more enjoyable.
👍👍👍

I know because I sent in all my letters in early September yet by mid Oct, I had not yet heard a thing. I had to call and ask them if they had received all my letters. They did, but since my advisor did not explicitly state he was my advisor in the body of his letter, his letter was misfiled for over a month.

Finally I had to have the prof send in an addendum about 4 sentences long plainly stating he was my advisor. As of 10/21 I am complete. I called and was told I am complete but I have not yet received the notification e-maill. PCOM appears to be incredibly slow in admissions, prolly cause they receive tons of apps. Still annoying to be over a month behind schedule at my top choice over something so stupid.

Anyone else call and get told they were compelte w/o receiving any email from the school??

i called today and they said my app was complete and ready for review...haven't received a letter via mail or email regarding completion status...although my check is cashed :-/
i sent in my secondary the 24 of Sep...
any insight into how long it should be for an interview invite...or rejection?

So, is the deposit for PCOM only $250? I interviewed there on 10/22 and LOVED it. Definitely my first choice.

Great. That will be extra fun to shell out two months before my wedding in June. The good news is I only submitted secondaries at CCOM and PCOM, already got into CCOM, so if I am accepted at PCOM this show is over. I'm too poor for this.

Oh I think I'll know within 2-3 weeks. I'm a high priority alternate at one of my state MD schools, and although, honestly, I think I like PCOM more, you can't beat the tuition at the state school. And it doesn't require a relocation for my fiance and I. I'm sure I'd be happy at either place and I'll gladly hold my spot at PCOM, since I won't know about this other school until after May 15th. PCOM has such an excellent program. I'm just tired of seeing my bank account in such a desperate situation. In the end I'll save way more than 2K going to the state school, or else I won't get in and then it doesn't matter.

I saw you got into a couple schools. Why did you choose PCOM?

Closeness to my family and my friends who are in 6-year programs here. Loved VCOM and would have gone there except I realized I probably need to be closer to home than Blacksburg. Wouldn't mine looking in that area for residency but not an option right now. Also, I know I'll be getting a solid education at either place but PCOM's network is larger.

they send this through email?
I called in yesterday and my file is finally complete..but now i'm wondering why I didn't get an email.
I didn't get an email for interview invite or interview confirmation from CCOM either, but am confirmed for an interview there...
need to check out whats going on with my email
(no i dont have a spam filter...)

so ig ot an interview and acceptance at AZCom and an interview/waitlist at Western but i havent heard a single thing from PCOM.

Do they prefer local people...im from Cali.....or do they jsut ahte my GPA

3.1 GPA, 11 12 11 S MCAT ..... 3 pubs, 4 years research and a bunch of other ECs.....

any thoughts? I really want a shot at PCOM.

Completeness is marked by a letter. Letters are sent through the postal service. I received mine at a home address, not a current address. They were nice enough to send the acceptance to the local address.

I am from Cali and I am accepted there. I am the opposite of you. I got interview and acceptance from PCOM but no words from Western yet. I raelly want a shot at Western. GPA 3.3, MCAT 32 O, 2 pubs, 5 years Alzheimer's disease research, 2 years cancer research, also a bunch of EC. Looks like we have pretty similar stats or possibly better than me. I think u definitely have a shot. Now it just up to the Committee at PCOM to decide.

I received a letter in the mail as well about three weeks ago. The e-mail came in 5 days ago.

I just called PCOM and was told that my application is complete as of today and that it's been forwarded on for review. This is after I called Friday and was told that my MCAT scores were missing. I sent my scores that day so they must have just gotten processed. The woman I spoke to didn't mention anything about a confirmatory email or letter...all she said is that if I'm chosen for an interview, I will be notified via email...

That's odd that the communication seems a bit inconsistent. But anyways, congrats to those who have been selected for interviews/accept. I'm jealous 😛

it seems this whole propcess is a crap shoot. there is no rhyme or reason to who gets what interviews and where. I hate it. that is all.

I'm right there with you guys, going absolutely crazy waiting for an interview invite from PCOM. My pre-med committee letter was also misfiled since early september. I was just told over the phone that I was complete on Oct. 24th, nearly two months after I thought I would be.:scared: I have acceptances at WVSOM and LECOM, which is cool since I am really interested in PBL. However, I loooove PCOM.

Anyone know how long it takes for PCOM to make a decision after the interview (i.e. accept, reject, WL)?

It really depends on the date of your interview. According to the admission office, the committee meet once a month and put together all interviewed candidates from the past month. During the meeting, they will vote on whether the interviewed candidate will be accepted, rejected, or on hold. So if you have an interview on Nov 4th and the committee meets on Nov 6th, then you will hear a decision about your candidacy immediately after their meeting. However, the longest time that you have to wait for a decision made at PCOM should be one month, according to PCOM admission office.

I really want an interview invite from PCOM but they are crazy slow at processing stuff. My LORs were delivered 7 weeks ago yet they're still not in my file! Gah! What's the point in getting your stuff submitted ASAP if they can't even stick the pieces of paper in your file in a timely manner?

Random venting, sorry....I'm a wee bit frustrated since I went out of my way to get everything to them within 24hrs of getting my secondary, and it seems that was a pointless task.

Now I won't hear back from them for a while. Boo.

can't just say you really want an interview. You have to SHOW them.

Here is a step by step guide for getting that interview:

1) Call them up and tell them how you want to let them know how serious you are about getting in...

2) go out to target. buy yourself a nice camping tent.

3) set it up outside the admissions office right in that front lobby

4) wait...

plenty of people get in that way.

Ah, yes, I'll just bail on the whole grad school thing and hang out in the lobby in from the admissions office.

Perhaps a letter of interest would work better? 😛
