This is probably more directed to students, or people that have already interviewed, but I just wanted to know if the admissions decisions are made in GA or PA? Do the interviewers send recommendations up to the PA campus to have a decision made? I would be very interested in knowing. Thank you all so much for your help.

I believe the interviewing is done in Ga but with the decision making I am pretty sure it is mostly done in GA with a little bit of input from PA. I know for sure that interviews are done in GA. GA has their own admissions team.

I have submitted my secondary for PCOM-GA campus as this is definately my first choice school. Although I applied late in the game, I am wondering if anyone knows how full the class is, how fast they invite you for an interview after submission of the secondary, how competitive it is, etc.

I know, I know, I applied late.
I have a 21 MCAT and a 3.8 GPA science and non-science with a doctor of pharmacy degree. I didn't take the MCAT until august and waited until October for my scores. Unfortunately, I work in a critical care unit and worked 12-14 hour days this summer so I didn't have time to study for the MCAT and hence the low score. After the scores returned, I didn't think they were high enough to apply to DO schools until I learned of the SDN network. I want to become a DO because of the emphasis on primary care and I really, really want to work in underserved primary care area someday.

Anyone have any suggestions??????????????/

Well, it is rather late, but I have been accepted and will not attend so that is definitely one seat. I'm sure the class is not full yet. However, I'm also sure PCOM-GA has no shortage of applicants - someone mentioned 2000 people have applied, and I think your MCAT and the lateness of the hour are going to be hurdles to your acceptance this cycle.

I definitely don't want to discourage you, but I would start studying for the MCAT now. Rock it in April. Tailor your PCOM-GA apps to reflect your desire to become a primary care physician IN THE RURAL SOUTH, esp Georgia. People emphasized that this is the mission of the school several times during my visit. I definitely got the feeling that they are mostly looking for folks from the southern region who intend to stick around. If you fit that bill, and kick but on the MCAT, I think your job experience and GPA will make you a very good candidate. Good luck!

Thanks for the input. I appreciate it! I am actually already studying for the April MCAT this coming year in the event I have to take it again. Although I am still very hopeful that I have a chance this year, it won't hurt to prepare. I actually have two schools that I am most interested in currently in the southeastern US as my true intention for attending medical school is to work primary care in an underserved area in the South.

Thanks again, and congrats on your acceptances!!!

Don't give up yet. I didn't get my app in until late feb/early march of last year. I interviewed in april on Ga-Pcom's last interview date, got waitlisted for a couple of weeks, then got accepted. Applying early definatly gives an advantage, but if you've got some good interview skills and/or clinical experiences then i say you've still got a decent shot. Either way, I wish you the best of luck.

If you need any questions answered about the school or anything related, I'll be more than willing to answer them.

Hi!! I submitted my secondary to them on Jan 9th.. they cashed the check on the 18th, I was granted an interview for Feb 13th.. TODAY (Feb 1). So they've got a pretty quick turn around it seems.. at least on interview invites.

GOOD LUCK to you!!

I was emailed today for an interview for next week, but I have a strong app (the school is in my backyard so they have to interview me by law). I was only complete one week ago.

Congrats and good luck to both of you on your interviews!!

Can I ask what your stats are? And, does anyone know how often the committee meets to determine who they will interview??

Thanks!!

If they do interview based on living close by to the school then I should get in hopefully. Good luck on yours.

Do they put location/ residency in consideration? I never knew that. Good luck on your interview.

Do they really put location of applicant or residency into consideration? I mean can it weigh more than your stats?

Of course residency matters. It also helps if you schedule a tour of the school with the admissions office. They will be happy to oblige as well as ask you to bring in a curriculum vitae. Good luck.
