PCOM - Suwanee, Georgia Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I also interviewed march 25th. I called Aisha last Tuesday because I hadn't received anything yet and she told me I was accepted over the phone. I still haven't received anything yet so I think it just takes longer to get to California.
Congrats! I know you are excited. I have an interview this Wednesday. Would you mind sharing your GPA, PCAT? How did the interview feel for you? Was the essay topic difficult?

Unfortunately there are some unprofessional members following and posting on this thread so I'd rather not disclose my statistics.

The interview is set-up so that you feel comfortable. It starts with lunch and a tour then, depending on your scheduled interview time, is followed by either the essay or the interview. I felt that the faculty, staff and students were all very welcoming and helpful. They'll answer all your questions and make you feel right at home. The interview itself went by quickly and only consisted of about 4 or 5 questions, all pretty general.

My essay topic was about government regulations on foods in response to obesity. I'm pretty sure all the adcom wants to see is that you can formulate and communicate ideas in an organized manner. You probably do not need an extensive knowledge of the essay topic.

Thank you! That was helpful and encouraging information. Tomorrow is the big day. I will let everyone know how it goes.

I feel like the interview went well. Yes, there are definitely still seats available. Just go to the Pearson Pcat website and request a transcript be sent to PCAT code 095. It will cost you 20 dollars. Then call Aisha in about a week.Make sure everything else is complete like LOR's.

MissionPharmD, just out of curiosity did you ask them if seats were avalable, or are you just assuming?

A guy who was interviewing with me told me. He said his wife had already been accepted to the program and she told him. No, I did not ask. Also, on their website it says still accepting applications. That was not on there before Pharmcas closed so I assume they still need people.

I would predict that several students who are getting accepted are taking offers from other schools. Mercer told me they accept over 280 students and only 145 end up going to the school. If Mercer has that many turning down the offers, I would assume PCOM does as well. That is about 50% of the students turning down the offer at Mercer.

Did you initially have it sent when you took the test? I did and PCOM hadn't received it. I told Pearson and they just resent it...call them and tell them what happened. You may not have to pay to get it resent where it was supposed to go.

Just to give you an idea, when I interviewed, Aisha told us that over 1000+ people applied. And I'm sure there's more apps coming in. So yeah.

March 25th, accepted a week later
Congrats! How many were there that day? There were fourteen interviewing with us yesterday. One guy wore jeans and a tee shirt. I think they may have sent him home. I did not see him after lunch.

Were you notified by phone, email, or postal?

hmm that's funny..we had a guy in jeans as well but he def interviewed. I couldn't imagine wearing jeans to a pharmacy school interview. But my acceptance letter was written on 4/8/2010 (interviewed the 31st) and it was through the mail!

Good luck!

That is funny. I am happy for you! I am certain it must feel good to have already been accepted. Until then, I will wait patiently and make a "mad dash" for the mailbox each day.

By the way, how much is the deposit they request?

 LOL.... I was there on Wednesday too. I think that guy was tagging along with a girl who actually was invited. The interview was relaxed and the essay was easy to me.

For those who interviewed on 4/14 when do you think we will hear something?

Aisha told my group that we should know something within the next thirty days. I am hoping to hear something next week. 😕 I really liked the school and the faculty. If I get accepted I will definitely be attending.

Hey everyone,

I just received this email from Aisha regarding the PharmD program. I thought some of you might find it helpful.

Good luck to all of you!
-----------------------------------------------------------------------Hello DO and Biomedical Science Students,

PCOM School of Pharmacy - Georgia Campus is still accepting applications for August 2010 Inaugural Class! We are also accepting the June PCAT so your family members/collegues/friends that have recently heard of us still have time to apply. To receive an application please direct them to our website; www.pcom.edu.

Why should one consider the new doctor of pharmacy program at PCOM's campus in Suwanee, Georgia (30 miles north of Downtown Atlanta)? In a word, opportunity. PCOM has been providing excellence in medical education for more that a century. This program will continue that tradition. So if a career in pharmacy is in their future, help them to become a part of history.

We are also hosting an Open House on Friday, April 30, 2010 from 6-8pm. Below see the flyer attached. This is an awesome opportunity to meet the Dean and faculty to discuss our program. To RSVP please email [email protected]. I ask that you email this PDF to anyone you believe may be interested. For additional questions please contact me at the information listed below.

Sincerely,

Aisha DeBerry

maybe addressing her by the correct name would help. it's Aisha, not Alisha or alisa.

I am sure she is very busy right now. She was going non-stop the day of the interview. I would just be patient with her.:help: You might try emailing admissions, just to let them know what is going on. Then wait to hear something back.
:nod:Good Luck

They are not very organized at all! I was interviewed and accepted in March, but I got another email in April that I have been invited for interview (exact same email as the first one). So... they don't even know who has been accepted or not. I would just keep calling... sending all those transcripts and pcats cost money. Good luck!

Would one be able to get FAFSA when attending this school or is it all out of pocket expenses?

also, has anyone looked into housing yet? is anybody trying to rent from one of the apartment communities suggested on the school website?

If any of you are currently in Atlanta, check out ProMove. I went there a few weeks ago and it was super helpful. I just told them where I wanted to live, price range, and amenities, and they gave me a ton of apartment complexes that fit the criteria.

Hello!
ANy ones knowswhen is the best time to contact Aisha? thanks

Well I have emailed her a couple times (cause she asked me to when I talked to her on the phone) and the only thing she did respond back to was the thing I sent more recently and she sent it at 8pm tonight. I also called and left a message today so I really think it's luck of the draw. I'd call to be honest. 😕
