I'm confused about which PDA to get. The people at this site seem pretty knowledgeable and seem to be pushing the Treo pretty hard. Anyone else have any input/feedback? Any other sites to look at that are dedicated to PDAs in medicine?

I'd go with the Pocket PC platform. The Palm OS is slowly but surely dieing.

As far as an actual model, the Dell Axim Pocket PCs are good for the money. The HP Ipaq is also good (I used to own one of these) and are sometimes referred to as the "cadillac" of Pocket PCs.

I would also go for a Pocket PC, they look better and perform a lot better too. I have a HP 4150 which has bluetooth, Wi-Fi and the stadard words, excell and other programs. I would strongly recommeded it.

Wait until you're going into 3rd year. Unless you really rely on a PDA for scheduling, it's essentially useless in med school until 3rd and 4th years. And by then the models will be different and maybe less expensive.

I know some medical schools issue PDAs at the start of 3rd year and include the cost in your tuition. Not sure how many school do this. There is no debate and no waiver to get out of having it issued to you. Needless to say, several people I know were not excited when they found out they could no longer use the PDAs they bought when the started 1st year. Something to consider.

i currently have an axim x50v and love it, use it pretty much everyday and there're many medical softwares out there for it too (skyscape and such)...

I'm probably getting an HP Ipaq for Christmas. I really want a Windows OS just so that I can easily go between my computer and it with Office Documents since I plan on using it alot. I also have an HP comp and printer and have had nothing but good experiences with HP's customer support so I feel a lot more comfortable going with them than with Dell.

Did you guys keep your cell phones and use them separately? What are your opinions on the PDA phones, like the treo, Samsun 730 or Audiovox?.... There is a rumopr of a dell pda phone, but nothing since last year. I'm looking for it for 3rd year.

I had 3 different PDAs. The last one is Treo650. It's invaluable in medicine. If you want to read more, go to www.treocentral.com, there is a thread about Treo650 in medicine on the forum. The device is small and compact. You can install any medical program you want. I do not recommend to buy a separate palm (or pocket PC) because you'll have to carry 2 devices, and you don't want to do this, trust me. There is a pretty good integration between the phone and the palm. You can buy a data plan from your wireless carrier (I have T-mobile and pay $5 a month) to use email and browse the Internet.
I have never owned a pocket PC, cannot say which one is good. Again, if you decide to buy a pocket PC, buy a device that integrates both the phone and pocket PC.
