Can someone explain to me what the differences in jobs are of the above specialties. Length of post dental school training. Average salary??

They are two names for the same thing. Dentists who exclusively treat children and adolescents and the special needs population are either referred to as "pediatric dentists" or "pedodontists" with the shortened form being "pedo". It takes an additional 2 to 3 years of training after dental school to be able to exclusively practice this specialty.

Why two names for the specialty? Also, from what I understand there is a shortage of these type of dentists, is that true?
