the whole #2 pencil thing is so that the pencil will make a mark dark enough to be picked up by the scanner, as long as your .9mm pencil makes a dark mark you'll be fine.

also, sometimes #2 pencils are marked as HB. they're the same thing, just different names.

thanks guys...i was hoping to use this pencil my dad got me, which uses .9mm lead

i wouldn't have had the heart to tell him i couldn't his pencil 🙁

Remember how Beatrice (Kiddo aka Black Mamba) got her sword from Hatori Hanzo (Kill Bill 1)... Well I treat my mechanical pencil with reverence and respect just like Hanzo and Black Mamba! My pencil is my sword, and I enter battle in 1 week! 🙄 MCAT will be vermon!

That Kaplan pencil that was given to me on test day is now considered my lucky pencil. I know I'm already insane. :meanie:

i had a friend last year who wanted to use the same pencil I used on my mcat in 2003 so that he could do well..... i have no idea what happened to that pencil, it did its job though and got me into the school i'd wanted to go to since i was in middle school. 😀

i ended up giving him a University of Miami School of Medicine pencil for luck instead.... yes... we are all crazy

i used this 4 inch long winnie the pooh pencil for all of orgo last year, got me two A's!! it was the hardest thing trying to write out mechanisms with that thing...

Love the Kill Bill reference. I used my lucky pencil from Orgo II. But it's power only works if you wrap a blue masking tape on the end. The blue macksing tape must be replaced periodically. The pencil so small from 3+ years of use that it's pretty impractical. I only used it to bubble in the answers for the MCAT. I retired it two months ago. It's currently living out its last days in a penciel case with its Ticonderoga cousins.

Pre-meds are a supersitious lot. 😀

hahaha you guys are so funny 😀

for me, i don't believe in lucky pencils (i have my red sox jersey for luck. i'd like to make a note that since i decided to carry around my jersey with me everywhere the bosox have won their last 5 games). i actually have this weird thing where i make an effort to use up all of my writing utensils. nothing aggravates me more than losing a pen or pencil before i've used it all up. it gives me this weird sense of accomplishment. 🙄

#2 refers to the hardness not the width.

But anyways, Who doesn't have a lucky pencil? I call mine Excaliber. It is the only pencil I have had longer than 2 months. It is a bic mechanical that I have refilled numerous times.

i have a lucky pencil too - you're definitely not alone. it's the only pencil i ever use so all of my knowledge is in it (weird, i know)

about the problems with mechanical pencils in the past - do they not let you use them???

These are my lucky testing pants. They intimidate the competition.

here i thought i was the only one..i refuse to buy a new pen until i finish the one i have..during one of my finals last year my pen began to run out and i was shaking it and tapping it and looking like an ass the whole time because i couldn't stand the thought of using another one before it was done...i know i have problems..
