i'm assuming by LOI you're doing letters of intent. i've done letters of interest to my schools, i'm a bit afraid to do intent letters, but i should consider it. I'm considering just sending a short email for my next one, since my other two that i have done were both snail mail letters, and were a bit long.

you seem to be in the same exact situation as me! 2nd app cycle and graduated in may '05 🙄 i'm going to go with burning secondaries, a nice early summer camp fire sounds great!

i'm WL'd at eastern virginia (middle third, i think a good shot, but so expensive!), drexel (they also don't give out info), and uconn (bottom third, again 😡 ).

yea, i definitely hope we get what sounds like a call from penn state! :luck:

What are your stats if you don't mind me asking, I guess I just can't believe you are a 2nd time app getting waitlisted at so many places! It is frustrating I'm sure to have to consider a 3rd round. I took august MCAT so I'd like to attribute my mediocrity to that and the fact that I did not apply to enough schools but I had no idea what my Aug score would look like and could not wait to send 2ndaries until after October or I would have been really screwed, but the DO progs I was accepted to are top notch and I know I will be happy if that is where I end up. 🙂

Definitely do a Letter of Intent if PSU is indeed your #1 choice, just tell them you would drop any other acceptances or waitlists to attend because you love 😍 them so much... that is what I am planning, I might end up beating them over the head with it by the end, but at least I know I will have tried my best to win them over! Not much more you can do at this point! :luck:

no problem,

gpa: 3.74
mcat: 1st time: 9, 9, 10 Q
2nd time: 8, 9, 12 O

as you can tell, very uneven although the score is pretty good (i was asked at drexel why i "didn't do as well" on the chem part). i have a lot of research experience, but a little clinical, in fact, very little (some work in geriatric center over a summer, volunteering in an ER recently). i don't really show leadership throughout my app, but i tried to point out leadership in my experience blurbs since i don't have any "leadership positions". so i basically know my weaknesses, but i don't think they should be holding me back as much as they are. i also should have applied to more schools.

i probably will end up writing a letter of intent....maybe after i reread my experience descriptions.....by which i mean, i probably won't be doing it tonight 😛

we do have similar stats! 😛 I am the opposite in the respect that I have all clincal experience (several settings) but NO research at all. I just couldn't fit it in when I was working 30 hrs/week with full-time school. Well, see how it does not make much difference in the end, because we are both in the same boat!! 😳 My best advice is to highlight how all activities (even those that are not clinical) were/are relevant to medicine and your goals as a physician, although you've probably got that covered... just trying to be helpful... :luck:

you're definitely right. i've rewritten all my essays. last year many of them were just plain descriptions, but i changed them to describe how they were important to me, what i learned about medicine/people....so they are sounding much better now. I kind of wish this was my app last year!

i'm glad you said you have lots of clinical and little research, or else i would have been pretty sure that i had entered the twilight zone and i was just talking to myself :scared: and then i would see a monster on the wing of an airplane going to an interview.........way too much tv 🙄

How much waitlist movement does PSU typically have? Anyone have an idea of how many people are on the list, and how many ppl get accepted?

If you look earlier in this thread there is some more info, no, we don't know numbers or how many get accepted, but last year about 5 people or so got off the WL on 6/15 of those who frequent SDN, now keep in mind those on SDN are probably just a small representation of all of those who got offers... some will decline offers and they will have to move on to others, but there were people that got called all the way up to just days before orientation.

I have heard some people say that a quarter to a third of the matriculating class at PSU comes from the WL, we have no confirmation of truth/fact on any of this info though... 😉

Hey guys, I withdrew from PSU as well since I got off the waitlist at Northwestern. I wish everyone on the waitlist good luck! Hope someone gets my spot!!!

yeah, i heard from previous threads that the waitlist situation at penn state was pretty grim, but i'm not sure if i should give up hope just yet...

I wouldn't! They have to take some people from it! and people are withdrawing acceptances and waitlist spots as they get accepted to their higher choice schools, so, it's dynamic, hopefully rewarding those that stick it out. :luck:

Just thought of something...

if you look @ 2006-2007 MSAR, it looks like PSU's class was exactly 50/50 M/F... and something like 67 OOS, 62 IS and 6 International students. Do you think they will pull us off the WL to fulfill M/F & IS/OOS spots that open up? 😱 is that why the WL is "unranked?" so they can fill the spots that happen to have vacancies come oh, say, June 15th?? 😕 :scared:

Have we concluded that no one is going to get off the waitlist until June 15?

I was just glancing back at past years, and it sure seems that way.

THERE IS STILL HOPE.

Barely Holding On,

poopsky

This sounds like a pretty good theory to me. Thats what I would do if I were them and wanted the class to be even......

It's scary, but it does make sense. I don't know why I didn't think of it sooner... but if it's true...ahhhhh.... more ambiguity!!!! 😱

Has anyone been accepted off the wailist this year? I have seen a lot of movement with the waitlists at other schools. I am curious to see if there has been any movement at all with Penn State.

that's what's going on at evms apparently, so i would also think it may be true here too

I think we need to start a "PSU waitlist support group" thread or... maybe just a "waitlist support group" thread in general?!? man, it's depressing! 🙁

OK folks I jsut officially withdrew from Penn State... Best of luck to you all...

I felt al ittle brave yesterday and called in....They said they havent taken people off the waitlist yet and it will be about another 2 weeks before they do so. I asked if they are predicting a good year for waitlist movement and she said she has no idea.......oh well it was worth a shot....

For what its worth, I withdrew my acceptance from PSU a couple of days ago. I wish you all the best!

On another note.... are you the same MOOSE from THS c/o 99?

well, it's only 2 weeks. Think of what you've already been through! I've been waiting for 2 months, and I'm sure others have been waiting even longer! 😳

This is going to be the most nerve-wracking 2 weeks of my life.
Thanks on the great info! You deserve a badge of courage for calling PSU....and a red one at that

oh, I like the roller coasters, c.p.! It's the log ride that makes me sick! :barf:

Anyone else unexpectedly fell in love with Hershey on the interview day? I expected farms, cows, grass...and that's what I saw. But it was all so beautiful (especially when you've been surrounded by concrete for years) that it really made me feel attached to the school.

Well, I fell in love with Hershey when I was I kid (all but my immediate family lives in and around Hershey)! 😍 I loved how nice everyone was, and how involved the students are in the community. I just felt comfortable there, the most comfortable compared to all other schools I interviewed at (although the nearby family probably helps with that too). I am going rural no matter what for the next 4 yrs and am very excited about that! 😀

concrete city 👎

but now those chocolate towns...mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

did no one else get pizza from the little pizza place in their outlet mall? I thought it was some awesome pizza. And I would not mind being around that for the next 4 years 😀
