Hooray, activity in the Penn topic. I need to quickly ask another question to keep this active. Hm...um...what is...um...crap, I have no question.

Ok, just to satisfy Emio and Vnair... 😉
What banks are there in University City?

What banks are there in University City? I checked out Wachovia and B of A and neither have any ATMs across the river...but have tons in Center City. Right now my checking account is with Wachovia, but I'm open to switching to a better bank (one that has locations in both Raleigh and U City would be ideal).
Also, I'm headed up this weekend--we leave tomorrow morning! I'm super excited 🙂 We're checking out a few condos and also some apartments!
and if you start in-state, you finish all 4 years in-state.
Sadly, not true. Yes, if you start OOS you're stuck OOS, but if you start IS, and move OOS, they kick up the tuition and there's no going back...
My husband and I are looking to buy and could get a better place for our $$ just over the bridge in NJ, but Penn said 👎
Oh my, I had no idea! Silly Penn. 🙁
And I will be in Philly on Thursday of next week looking for housing! So excited!
So (and I may be way behind on this) you decided to go to Penn! I remember there being some uncertainty due to your fiance? Guess that worked out?
And V...... Philly is wet. We've actually considered foregoing the home buying plan in order to put our money towards building an ark. What brings you out this weekend?
Looking at apartments once again. Im rolling into philly saturday afternoon, but I have to run back to nyc that night so I don't get disowned by my mom for missing mother's day.
I really should go to sleep, I have an orgo final tomorrow morning at 8am. How wonderful it is to already be accepted.

Could that lower your expected family contribution on FAFSA?? Could be worth it. ahah. bad joke
What?! Just last week they emailed me with..
"No, your assumption is incorrect. You keep the residency status you had when you applied and when accepted. You were accepted as an in-state student and that's the way you stay. You will be billed as in-state no matter what your local address is."
I had assumed that living in another state would be out of the question, but just to be sure, I asked. Perhaps they see if differently if you are buying out-of-state vs. renting?? But if so, that really should've been explicitly stated. Who did you speak with?
So Shanomong, you said in a different thread that Penn gave people scholarships to entice them into choosing Penn over a different school... but they have no need-based aid? According to the website there are no $5000 scholarships for first years - so is that like an under the table scholarship? I'm sure there is more to the story than I know but it just seems really unfair to people who are broke / only applied to one school.

Yeah, I guess you're right about the private school not offering need based aid thing, although a lot of ivy leagues have a lot of need based aid for undergrad. I guess the thing that bothers me is that their website lists we have x,y,z scholarships (the biggest for first years being 3,000) and then people are getting these unlisted scholarships. Why not just say we have 5,000 scholarships for first years that are merit based? It would still be frustrating not to be picked but I would just assume the people picked were more meritorious (is that a word?) than me and that would be that. This just seems tricky somehow. Also it seems to me that it would benefit Penn to list scholarships, because people that currently don't apply because of expenses might be willing to give it a shot. Anyway I am way overthinking this. Oh well.
I'm still hoping maybe there will be a surprise in the financial aid package.... 🙄

Reviving the thread...
I just activated my @vet.upenn.edu email! So exciting! 👍
No, I sort of stumbled across it. I have been trying to figure out something useful I can do with my PennKey and browsing all around the website. I found the link after logging into the Campus Express page. 😉

Well some people really like loan fees, plus Discover takes your first born when you default.
