Wanted to know your professional opinion regarding a pharmacist holding 2 Board of Pharmacy Specialties. Admittedly, I did not have the foresight to think about this beforehand, as I got my BCPS certification during my PGY2 year, and I wasn't sure if I would be able to land a job specifically in my specialty area. I'm debating whether I should wait till next cycle (to see what kind of job I land- haven't accepted a position yet), taking the specialty exam and letting BCPS just expire, or taking the specialty exam and letting BCPS expire. Is there value in holding/ maintaining both?

Also... I did not know about the sheer amount of $ required to maintain certification (though I did see that there would only be a single $100 maintenance fee per year if the pharmacist had multiple certifications)

Any insights appreciated

is this critical care? i think it would since its new and most critical care specialist would probably want that and if you get it early it'll make you stand out from the pack if you're hunting for a job, if not meeeh...

yes, this would be for CC. thing is, I am still applying/ interviewing. So yes, on the one hand, having it would help me stand out (though I hope to settle into something in the next month or 2 even before the testing window), but on the other hand, I might not even end up with a CC position- my geographic area is somewhere between urban and suburban, so I'm applying to a range of things (CC, ID, etc). I guess my question is more hypothetical

In my opinion, I don't think it'll give you that much of an advantage in the job market and by the sounds of it, you'll already be in a job before you'd have to take the test anyways. If I already had my BCPS and an exam for my specific speciality became available, I would take it and probably keep both though. One of the hospitals I did my rotation at had A LOT of pharmacist with two 2 BPS certifications.
