For my OBGYN residency personal statement....

I know that I want to go into MFM. I'm doing OBGYN not for the GYN, but strictly for the OB. Is it alright if in my personal statement I mention my great love of MFM and almost exclusively talk about my reasons for loving the field? In other words, is it okay to not mention much about enjoying gyn surgery, pelvic floor disease, or all those other things that OBGYN residents do, but which I wont be doing as an MFM?

Its good to show a distinct interest in a certain part of Ob-Gyn, like MFM is your case, especially if you're applying to a program w/a strong MFM reputation. However, in teh spirit of haveing a well rounded application, you may want to address the Gyn portion as well a little too. You may not like it right now, but it'll be better than handing in a one sided essay. Some of the better statements I saw generally said that they like "X" field, but that residency was a learning process and they were keeping their options open.

Good luck!
