Disclaimer: I apologize for my scatter brain sentences, dont have it infront of me and am in lab, thanks!
I have my personal statement written although I will more than likely make changes. I have written one, then started a new one, and now have three written which all seem different to me. I never started with an outline in mind, rather wrote as I went each time.
My final PS looks something like this:
Introduction stating that while in undergrad I developed a drive and love for science with a passion to apply that to healthcare, and treating people. I shadowed and decided Podiatry was for me.
Second paragraph: talk about my exposure to science and that I have done well, and talked about my research in biochem trying to show that I am science savy
Third paragraph: wrote about my volunteering exposure in a major trauma center. Volunteered for two months, 20 hours a week in various different departments ranging from the icu to the ed to nuero etc.etc. wanted to show how ive decided to pursue healthcare and how much i love hospital life from a healthcare providers point of view
Fourth: talk about my finding of podiatry and my shadowing experiences, i shadowed a doc a lot and i consider her a friend because of it. probably have 75 + hours with her, saw two surgeries. really wanted to show how much I loved Podiatry and how I see the doc as a role model (valedictorian of barry her year, great mom, etc etc)
Conclusion: I stated that I feel ready for the challange of school, feel confident that it is the right decision, all of these experiences have moved me to podiatry etc, ended with I look forward to becoming a future colleague to podiatric community.
What do you think? I really think that I may be overstating my ecs, and also that saying I did well in my upper level science courses in the second paragraph may come off as arrogant. Although I did take that into consideration and tried to sound least like that as possible. Id appreciate feed back from anyone writing one or who has written one or sees them etc. Thanks a lot!
