Is she declawed by chance? Cats who are declawed tend to bite because they feel vulnerable. Another reason NOT to declaw cats. 👎

Cats are generally not mean creatures, but they need a home that will support them: scratching posts and training, litter training, etc. You can't just expect a cat to go for a post instead of the couch if you don't train them. Cats, like dogs, need training and attention, too.

Yeah, she earned a declawing a few years back after leaving a couple deep gashes in my girlfriend's arm.

I'm planning on taking my two cats with me to med school, they are my babies. They are siamese, so they have very doglike personalities . . .not standoffish like many cats. One even plays fetch with me. They have eachother to play with and my husband will be there for them, but I'm sure they will resent the decrease in snuggle time, they are like velcro, the minute I sit down somewhere one is in my lap! The only thing that worries me is finding affordable housing in NYC or Boston that will allow kitties, if that is where we end up.

Well, you amputated her fingers, I'm not surprised she wants to bite you  You can train your cats to not use their claws in an offensive way. I have had cats all my life and have never had to declaw them, nor have any of them EVER hissed at, clawed, or bit me.

I have a kitty - 2 1/2 months old, named Skid, and am absolutely planning on taking him to med school with me.
Cats pretty much take care of themselves anyway - sure he's a little neurotic at times, but if you don't mind being woken up but a swift paw in the face at 7 am, he's great! 😀

My cat MCAT just ruined my futon by leaving me a scatological surprise on it. He does that every time his litter box isn't perfectly clean and scooped. I'm definitely getting one of those self-cleaning litter boxes before I start school. 😡 😡 Man, that MCAT. You leave it alone for five minutes and it craps all over you. 😡 😡

I will definitely be taking my cat with me when I go. He's super low-maintenance and very friendly. Sometimes, too friendly.

I have a rabbit and a chinchilla and I'm not sure what I'd do with them. I built them a nice cage last summer (5.5ftX3.5ftX3.5ft) that I simply cannot move. I'd hate to put them in the typical tiny wire cage. My hubby doesn't seem to keen on watching them for me so I'm not sure what to do when the time comes.

My cat Wysisyg goes where I go. She'll like med school I'm sure.

They make Self-cleaning litter boxes? I thought about teaching her to use the potty like I saw on TV.

I'm thinking about getting a hedgehog once i start...either that or in between first and second year. I've read up on them and they seem very low manitenance, but like all pets, they still need some lovin'. Any thoughts??

I wish I could take my boyfriend's doggie with me. My sweet little blue merle Aussie. She's 5, almost 6, and I am a relatively recent addition to her life, but when I've been gone a week or so - boy does she look PATHETIC! That dog can turn on the theatrics!!! She is fully convinced that I am her personal petter and that I exist solely to rub her head, her ears, scratch beneath her collar, and to lay on. I LOVE IT!!! I am hoping that she (and her owner) will be able to join me after a year or so.

i was thinking about getting a pet rock, but they're just too much of a hassle to maintain/train. i mean, just look at that episode of family guy when Peter found his pet rock--it just kept peeing all over the place! and when you try to talk to a pet rock, it's like talking to a wall...

let me be the first to say congrats, ingamina! do you still have your two other dogs in your avatar?

I wish I could get a dog, but I think I'll stay with kitties for now. They're easier for me, and easier if I get an apartment. But I love the protection of a big dog. My parents used to breed Great Danes, and I grew up with harlequins all around me (they're the black and white spotted kind). We had five or six in the house at once for many years. Maybe I'll get me one after residency!

Oh yes! Inga and Wilhelmina are excited to get their little bro. I've never had a Saint Bernard before, but man, they're incredible dogs, big babies.
As puppies, they're the easiest to handle - sleep and eat, that's it. As they get older, they require a lot of training, because of their shear size. Luckily I have help to handle that. Just need to get a house with a BIG yard.

There's almost nothing better to come home to, dogs help you get up in the morning, always wanting to go with you to run errands, and have licks and grins to spare when you need one.
