Cats are generally not mean creatures, but they need a home that will support them: scratching posts and training, litter training, etc. You can't just expect a cat to go for a post instead of the couch if you don't train them. Cats, like dogs, need training and attention, too.
Yeah, she earned a declawing a few years back after leaving a couple deep gashes in my girlfriend's arm.


You can train your cats to not use their claws in an offensive way. I have had cats all my life and have never had to declaw them, nor have any of them EVER hissed at, clawed, or bit me.
