PharmCAS

Thank you!

PharmCAS confused me because they used being on the deans list as an example for making an entry under extracurricular activities....confusing...

Really? It doesn't make sense that they did that, at least not to me. If you participated in a school's organization, volunteered, etc. would go under EC activities section.

I sent my fee and supplemental application to UCSD on Oct 31 and Nov 1, respectively. They still have not cashed the check and there is no status information in PharmCAS. Is anyone else in this situation? If not, for those who also applied at the deadline, when was your check cashed and/or when did your application appear as received in PharmCAS?

Thanks for any information.

I mailed my application express on October 30th (because I thought the fee had to be received by the 1st). They cashed my check on the 9th, but no update on PharmCAS nor emails (other than the automatic email I got after submitting the supplemental online).

I also submitted the supplemental application and mailed the fee to UCSD on Nov 1st. They cashed it on the 9th also, but I haven't received any confirmation from them. Nothing on PharmCAS either.

How long does it take before the gpa shows up after the day of e-submission? it said 5 weeks on pharmcas but does it really take that long?

Same here. I mailed my supp right on Nov 1st. They cashed my check a few weeks ago, probably around the 9th like Vogelsang and senzabee. Haven't heard anything from them either. At least UCSF emailed me about my application being completed and reviewed. Don't know what's taking SD so long...😴

I think it depends on when you send in transcripts of all the schools you reported in your application. They need time to verify the transcripts, and then calculate your GPA. For me, I e-submitted on the same day Pharmcas received my transcripts, and it took them about 4 weeks to update my pharmcas gpa.

I was wondering how schools look at pharmcas (particularly UF). Do they wait until Pharmcas mails the application, or do they just view it online, as soon as it is e-submitted and all transcripts and lor's are received? Do I really have to wait 5 weeks for Pharmcas to calculate my GPA and send it out for the schools to start looking at my application?

I completed and submitted my PharmCAS app on Oct 31, 2006. The initial printout was mailed by PharmCAS to UF on Nov 16. An update was mailed by PharmCAS to UF on Dec 8, I'm guessing with my PCAT scores that just arrived at PharmCAS.

I submitted all parts of the supplemental application on November 30. I think UF now should have all of my stuff.

I read on UF's website somewhere that they wait until Fall transcripts and PCAT scores are in before reviewing the application. I don't know, but would like to know, if UF will look at it before the Fall transcripts come in.

I don't know for sure, but I highly doubt any of the admissions committee (for UF at least) look at applications before they receive everything. I wouldn't even be surprised if they waited until after the deadline for admission to look at applications -- although I have no basis for that except a hunch. Many of the people on the committee are professors and facilitators that teach classes and have MANY more responsibilities beyond the admissions process. Not to mention, you are approaching the holidays, and I'm sure they all prefer to be with their families rather than looking at applications.

You're just going to have to accept that you have to wait it out. It's the most stressful and aggravating experience I've had in my academic career, but it's all you can do. They will remember you if you call and email them constantly, but probably not in the way you want to be remembered. So just sit tight, and try and focus on what classes you have left. I've been through what you're going through, so I understand completely, but there's really nothing you can do but wait.

when pharmCAS receives your official transcripts, does it show that they received it?

According to the PharmCAS website, we're suppose to be able to update our coursework with our fall semester grade, has anyone tried cause I can't seem to do it.

"The Academic Update window will open on December 15, 2006, following the completion of the fall 2006 term, and close on February 1, 2007."

Based on the time of your post I'd say it wasn't quite 12/15 yet.😉 I looked at it yesterday and will probably try in about 1 hour.
Even though PharmCAS POB is EST, I'm not sure if that's what their database runs on.

I wrote to them and they said midnight EST.

Still can't find it...am I just overlooking it? Anyone open that window yet?

Ok I don't get how this works. I don't see any window.

Based on the FAQ section. (https://portal.pharmcas.org/acad_update.html)
it looks like you go to the coursework page and they should allow you do delete the planned coursework and update it with grades.

Having said that, I've been all over the application and they haven't opened it up yet, even though according to their own instructions (http://www.pharmcas.org/applicants/fallcourses.htm) it should have been open starting today.😕

FYI, Pharmcas just sent an e-mail! The window is now open.

Even though you might have seen the option, don't update until you get an email. I updated as soon as I saw the option (and prior to getting an email), and the update never processed correctly.

Wait for the email and follow those directions. 🙂

Hi I still have some interviews next month and I was wondering what effect changing some of my projected classes will have on admissions in your opinion. I'm signed up for an immunology lab and its not required for my major and its not a prereq at any of the schools I'm applying to. I just am looking for an easier courseload because I have to travel so much for my interviews next month and I will also be working a lot because I'm so broke from this whole applications process/school deposit.

Thanks for any input!

I don't think it will change much of anything, especially if your classes aren't required for the schools you are applying too.

I can't believe why everyone is bent on "doing what you said the first time", because life is so variable and I'm sure a heck of a lot of faculty members at these colleges have said and done the exact same things we're dealing with right now. I wouldn't sweat it too much if I was you.

I had the pharmacist I work with write me a letter of rec and she said that she submitted it last Tuesday, but when I log on to my account it still says "In-Progress." After she submits it, shouldn't PharmCas recieve it immediately and the status be changed to "received"?

Thanks!

The same thing happened with one of my letters of rec. My recommender ended up having to submit it a second time because it didn't register the first time.

Did you all ask your evaluators to send the sheet from pharmcas that you signed together with their letters? Without that sheet, pharmcas won't accept the letters. Pharmcas received mine and had it posted a week after it had been sent. I'd suggest that you call pharmcas and ask them about it. If it passes over 1 week and they still say they haven't got it yet then it's to your safety and best interest to ask your pharmacist to resend the letter.

The same thing happened to me because the pharmacist started to send my letter to pharmcas but did not complete it. When she went back to finish, it wouldn't let her log in....but eventually they recieved it after I emailed them a few times. If they still don't have it, you could always email them to make sure the person sending it did it correctly! (As if they don't already require you to do enough, haha) 🙂

I asked her to resubmit it and it finally says received. Thanks for everyone's replies.

Hi everyone I had a question, so I had my PCAT sent to pharmCAS because Midwestern-Glendale requires you to send it to pharmCAS, but I recently checked my status online for Glendale and they still don't have my PCAT and I sent it three weeks ago or so and pharmCAS has it recieved on the 18th of December. I'm wondering if maybe its like GPA verification where PharmCAS still has to tabulate your score and whatnot before they send it.

Anyone have any input?? 😕

Thanks for the reply, I actually e-mailed UOP and they said it was no problem also 🙂

I did the same thing with a school, as I didn't realize I had to send the PCAT to PharmCAS the first time around. So I paid the $20 and had the first PCAT sent. Then I was talking to PharmCAS, and they said that both of my scores had been in for months. So, basically PCAT sends all scores each time you take the test - in my case they send the first scores automatically along with the second. So, FYI to all of you who are in similar situations.....you don't need to pay the $20!!!!

PolarBear, Midwestern still may be on Christmas vacation. Did you call them? I wouldn't do a thing until everyone has returned from the holiday. There is probably a backload of mails/emails/office correspondence that includes your PCAT scores that has not been opened due to everyone being on vacation.

I think it may be easy for me to say this, but here it goes:

Have you finished all of your required pre-reqs for every school? Are you doing this elective in order to graduate with a degree?

If the answer to the first is "yes" and to the second is "no", I would not advise you to take this class, especially if your work and interview schedule is extensive. Schools primarily care about you fulfilling their requirements, and although it may look good to take other classes, the rewards of going through the stress of taking a class probably would not outweigh the benefits you would receive in the admissions process.

Does anyone know if the schools look at the application that PharmCAS sends online or do they wait for the printout copy? My PharmCAS page says app is available to schools online but printout has not been mailed. Just wondering if I should call them.

I am pretty sure both the online and the printout are the same. The online one is useful when schools look at your academic update for the Fall semester grades as it gives them immediate check-up on your progress. All the schools I applied to told me they always waited until they received the pharmcas printout. I'd suggest that after submitting your pharmcas+supplemental, you wait until 1 week after the pharmcas website says it's sent out your printout to schools, then contact the school to see if they have everything (pharmcas + supplemental) yet. After that comes the part I don't really like: waiting for interview...But be sure to check right after the pharmcas website says it's sent out your printout to make sure schools get what sent out. I had a friend who got stuck with pharmcas sent-outs getting lost by postal mailing mistakes-it was a disaster for her.

So schools do wait until they recieve the printout to review your app? Because I'm applying to Midwestern and they automatically send out a supplemental app after receiving the PharmCAS app. I want to do this as quickly as possible as I feel like I'm late in the app process with everyone else getting interviews/acceptances already.

Hi everyone its that time of year, academic update on pharmCAS. I'm having trouble though because I took two seperate summer sessions this past summer and I submitted my original pharmCAS application with my grades for summer session I, but I was currently taking summer session II so that was only in progress. So I'm updating my coursework as completed but it won't let me add my summer session II grades to my summer quarter 2006 (because pharmCAS won't let you seperate the two sessions), and if I try to make a new summer 2006 it says its already existing so I'm left with only Fall 2006, Winter 2007, Spring 2007 and I have nowhere to put my summer session II grades.

I called pharmCAS this morning and the person I talked to said to add it on an interim quarter but I don't know how to make a new quarter...

So confused, anyone else in the same boat or know what to do?? 😕

From my experience they usually do wait until the printout because for UOP I remember I submitted my pharmCAS on August 31st and UOP didn't have my pharmCAS as "recieved" until late in September. Hopefully for you it won't be such a long a wait because I imagine pharmCAS isn't as busy now as they were in the fall months.

I thought PharmCAS would have been a little more helpful than that. The only thing you might try is switching qtr/semester to see if that is a big enough difference to get another summer section in. The only problem is that it would mess with your GPA calcs if they don't realize that they're using to wrong type. I'd try calling them again, see if maybe someone else is a little more helpful.

polarbear,

you need to email pharmcas and tell them to update the session ii grade for you. you can't do it, the system won't let you. i was in the same situation, and i had to email them to do it.

Thanks for the help! I actually called pharmCAS and spoke with someone more helpful and he was able to update my pharmCAS over the phone. 🙂

Anybody know if your letters of reference, essay and all the other stuff from your PharmCAS app remain usable for the following year if you weren't to get in this year or do you have to do it all over again?

You have to do it all next year..infact even creating a new user name and all..

Has anyone else not submitted their update yet??

I just mailed my transcript this morning and was wondering how long it would take for them to update your GPA?

I feel like such a procrastinator :scared:

My transcript was mailed on Dec. 20 and PharmCAS received it on Jan 5 (probably due to holidays).

My GPA was updated the same day they received it.

Does anyone know if they mail updated paper copies to schools after the Academic Update with our new GPA's? Or is it just available to them online?

They resend a copy of your stuff. If you'll go to the "Designations" section it'll show when the revisions were sent.
