It's okay. Last yr, one of my transcripts got delayed...It wasn't received until way after Nov. 1st. pharmcas processed my app very late, but I still got an interview. So I think as long as you have it submitted on time, u should be ok.
 
So I'm almost done with everything on my PharmCAS application, but I'm uncertain about my hours for volunteering and clubs and other stuff. My weekly hours varied and I never really kept track of how many hours I spent total participating in each extracurricular. I don't want to put a number down that I think is correct, and then have PharmCAS or one of my potential pharmacy schools find out that my total hours are incorrect/inaccurate. As many of you probably know, the hours aren't a required field when listing your EC's on PharmCAS. But I'm afraid if I don't put any of that information in, schools may think I didn't spend many hours at all in that activity and/or that I put minimal effort into my application. Does anyone know how much PharmCAS/pharmacy schools verify these things? Any help/advice would be greatly appreciated.

just estimate. chances are, the schools can't really verify it anyway, but just make a guess and make it as close as possible, and reasonable. don't tell them you did 200 hours in 2 weeks, unless that's what you really did, then i'm sure they'll ask you to explain that one.
 
Yeah I estimated mine too...because it's hard to remember or keep track of exactly how many hours you did for one thing.

I just told them I did 100 hours in a time spand of 1 year
 
I already paid to send my completed PharmCAS app a few weeks ago. They still have not mailed the stuff out to the schools.... How long does it normally take for PharmCAS to mail them to the schools?

Im using the ELOR in pharmcas.
I was wondering, if your professor wrote and send the letter of recommendation from elor, will your status change immediately from pending to something else, or the recommendation has to be process for a week or two and then your status change.

ALso, is the recommendation the same as transcript, even if the recommendation is still processing, can you still esubmit your pharmcas?

If you submit your LOR electronically, it will change immediately. I know for my app, it said "incomplete" if my recommender opened the link but didn't submit or complete it. It changed to "completed" the day my professor told me he finished it.

You can esubmit your pharmcas, as long as your recommendation gets to pharmcas by the deadline. So if you have November 1st deadlines, you can esubmit now, just make sure your professor completes everything online by the 1st (or sooner).

I've been trying to get my underlined text transferred when I copy and paste but it doesn't seem to work. I've tried italicizing as well. Does anyone know if there is a way to get underlining or italics to transfer when you copy and paste? Or do underline/italics fall under this same "what you see is not what you get" type category? It seems like it's a pretty piss-poor system if you're supposed to view your personal statement for errors but what you view isn't necessarily going to be what the schools view. That's real comforting. Thanks a bunch PharmCAS, you guys suck.
 
If the dealine for a particular school is November 1st, can I e-submit this last week of October?
PharmCAS said it may take 5 weeks before everything gets processd after I e-submit, so does this mean I will miss the NOvember 1st dealine?

No, as long as you have everything submitted properly on your end and e-submit by November 1st, you are fine? Have they gotten all your transcripts and recommendations?🙄
 
While i was looking through this, i found a few links to the pharmCAS. Im confused on how it works.
 
do you transcipts and letters of recommendation need to be in the pharmcas system before you e-submit?
 
No, they don't. PharmCAS will update your info as it comes in.
 
I think your transcripts to but your LOR's dont...need to say recieved, im pretty sure at least
 
Well I e-submitted my app before my transcripts were received and before my last LOR was received and everything was okay.
 
PharmCAS is a central application for most pharmacy schools nationwide. It is the first step in the application process. Basically you fill out the application, get your transcripts, LOR's, PCAT scores, etc.. sent to PharmCAS and they send everything to your designated schools. From then on it depends on your school. Some have supplmental applications that you send directly to them. Some just have additional fees. Make sure you contact each school you're considering and have them explain their application process to you. Also ask them what part PharmCAS plays with their specific school. Some schools don't use PharmCAS bu most do. On wwww.pharmcas.org, there's a list of all the participating schools and the requirements for each one. I know it looks daunting at first, but just read everything carefully and thoroughly and you'll be fine.

Try to calculate it the best you can. Noone will say anthing to you about your calculation being wrong.
 
Thought this might be something everyone is wondering and would like to know:

From your applications, which schools are good about updating the online supplemental status section of PharmCAS?

So far for me, only UCSF has "updated" my status and a table of the supplemental materials appears instead of the red words. But it doesn't say the dates of when my application materials were received/postmarked. This took about 2 weeks from the day they received my application. Also, my application fee check was just cashed in on the 26th, fyi, so they definitely got my app.

I am having a huge problem........ I am 30 years old:

I have 12 years experience working at Walgreens as a pharmacy Technician
I hold a bachelor's degree from Loyola University in Research Sciences
I have a science mauscript that was published in a scientific journal.

Now here is the PROBLEM..... back in the day....about ten years ago, I attended a junior college and to be honest...at that time, I was not so serious about school. I took re-medial math and chemistry courses and Anatomy 1 and Anatomy 2, Chem 1 and 2, and I ended up getting D's in all those courses.......

Then I went back to school for my bachelor's worked my ass off and after I received my bachelor's degree, I went back to the junior college and re-took all the pre-pharmacy courses AGAIN and got straight A's in all them........However, PharmCAS includes all courses including re-medial and repeated courses in thier GPA's, which has brought down my GPA to a 2.6/4.00.....When I contacted Midwestern pharmacy School and UIC Pharmacy School they told me that they go by the GPA provided by PharmCAS. I think it is so unfair that something which I did ten years ago will affect my chances to get into pharmacy school, even though I got straight A's in my recent pre-pharm course work. Not to mention I hold a bachelors degree and I have 10 years experience as a pharmacy tech. Can anyone tell me if I still have a chance at getting into pharmacy school.....I have YET TO TAKE the PCAT.......... I AM SO UNHAPPY WITH PHARMCAS.....
 
My friend - this is one of those painful things that simply cannot be avoided. If those classes appear on the transcript - they will be calculated. Even if your school participates in grade forgiveness, doesn't mean your next school will. The next step is to start contacting schools and find out which ones are open to your situation. Having a great GPA now is good - it might be enough to outshine a bad record from 10 years ago. You can only know if you ask. I wouldnt bother applying to a school that you have not already talked with.

Call all your schools first.


If no luck, consider NON PharmCAS schools. There are quite a few of them. UT-Memphis comes to mind... they have a great program and they are Non-PharmCAS.

You can go to the school pages at PharmCAS and the ones that are not highlighted with a link are NON PharmCAS. Plenty of choices. I'm sure many of them will take note of your situation if you talk to them.

My school is not offering one of the classes I listed on the PharmCAS for this coming spring semester. Does anyone know if I can change it now that it has been submitted?
 
Is the course a prerequisite for admission?
 
I think its ok as long as you tell all the schools you are applying to about the change (in writing). And obviously if its a pre-req you're going to have to take it, even if its at a Junior College.
 
Its not a pre-req. Yet. Meaning it will be required for the 2008 entering class. I wanted to take 3000 level comparative vertabrate anatomy and my school is only offering 2000 level Anatomy/physiology. I already have physiology. ? I just found on the PharmCAS website that in December changes will be allowed as transcripts are submitted. Im not going to worry. Besides, all my nervous energy is focused on those PCAT scores from Oct. 21. 😱
 
Thanks for your advice guys.....I found out that in Illinois alone, there is southern university college of pharmacy that does not participate in PharmCAS.......I also found out that there is a new Pharmacy school opening in Chicago......Its called Chicago State Univeristy, and they won't be admitting thier inaugrual class until Fall'08.....Plus they do not use PharmCAS......... So if SIU and CSU do not use PharmCAS, then my GPA will be around a 3.6/4.0.

Thats cool man - just be up front and open with the school. Talk to them and make it so they can recognize your voice. It may not seem like a big deal - but communication goes a long way...

you can update it during the pharmcas update period (in mid-Dec?)

does anyone know if we can update the planned courses for the fall (current semester) if what I put in the summer is different than what im taking now?
 
How long does it take for pharmcas to recieve paper letters of recommendation?

I certainly hope its not 3-4 weeks.
 
to RECEIVE paper letters of rec, it's a matter of how long it takes to get there in the mail. Pharmcas uses the date that they physically receive the letter in the mail. However, it takes 3 to 5 weeks for it to get processed and updated into your file, depending on how swamped they are, go figure, if you send it near a deadline, everyone will be sending stuff last minute and they'll have a lot of things to go through.
most schools will go by the date pharmcas receives the letters
 
I was wondering...can I expect my pharmCas GPA to be relatively close to the GPA I get from my University?? And does pharmCas separate your science and non-science GPAs?? If yes, does Pharmacy schools look at them differently, or do they combine science and non-science GPAs?? Gosh, I'm real nervous, what if my pharmCas GPA is way lower than what I receive from my university..

it should be pretty close, but it can be lower sometimes. i forget the reason why. This esp happens if you have two or more schools that you've gone to. I thought i had a cum 3.0 but when i got my pharmcas processed, it was like a 2.9.
 
if they send the letter of recommendation by express mail/overnight, then it will be recieved the next day. i know one of mines was sent on saturday and it says on pharmcas "recieved on 10/30/06".
 
I was submitting my application to PharmCAS when my version of internet explorer crapped out on the confirmation screen. When i refreshed it, read that my credit card info was incorrect. (Normally, refreshing at this step is NOT recommended, but I did it anyways.) So after correcting it, I was able to submit payment. However in case PharmCAS does try to fork me for an extra fee - has anybody ever been able to get money back from pharmcas?

I'm not sure how they sent mine. But the stamps that I have say 1st class on them. Not sure if that means anything.

Also, does it really take mail that long to go across the U.S.? I understand that it takes a parcel 2-3 weeks(worse case scenario) from 1 state to another, but were talking about typical mail here. So I guess they should get it in a few days right?

Submit them ASAP, they take their sweet time calculating your GPA, mine took 5 weeks and that was 2 months ago, they're probably swamped now.

I e-submitted my application about two weeks ago and have been constantly checking to see when my designated schools receive my application. When I checked today, PharmCAS had calculated my GPA in all the different categories and the message at the top says, "Your designated institutions have instant access to your entire application on-line including your PharmCAS GPAs. Part of this service, PharmCAS sends a printed copy of your application via UPS to all of your designated schools, which may take up to 2 weeks in the mail." Can the schools I applied to check my application right now online, or will they not even know about my application until they receive the hardcopy/printout from PharmCAS? I'm assuming the latter is correct which seems kind of stupid since a simple e-mail to the school would let them know that I applied and then they could just look at the application online - saving both time and money. Also, under school designations, it says printout not mailed by each of my designated schools. I'm wondering what else PharmCAS has left to do before they mail the printout since they've already calculated my GPA. Background check maybe? I know that many of you have commented that it takes a good four or five weeks for PharmCAS to do everything, but I guess I thought "everything" just meant verifying your transcripts and calculating your GPA - which has already been done in my case. So for those that have already applied, after your GPA is calculated, how much longer do I have to wait and worry before I know that the school is aware of my application? Thanks in advance for any replies and good luck to everyone applying.
 
They can access your file online but i doubt they will --- they'll just look at it when it comes in paper form. It takes a little bit of time i think 3 weeks for mine??? I dont remember... but just remember theres thousands of people in the same situation --- they have to mail so many applications out so be patient. Wait a week or so? if not mailed out yet, try emailing them
 
I e-submitted on Sept 19th, PharmCAS mailed the hardcopy to my schools on the Oct. 16th and my schools sent me confirmations that they recieved my application about 2-3 days after PharmCAS mailed them.
 
so if a schools deadline is say like dec 1, so do we have to submit pharmcas 2-3 weeks before that, or can we do it on dec 1?
