1. Hi, does anyone have information about the rigorous level of this joint program at UOP or USN and how useful the joint degree is regarding career prospects?

2. Is anyone experiencing this program and what do you think of it?

3. For the application process to MBA program, how much weight do admission put on work experiences and business classes?

Hey Samuraix, I'm in the joint MBA program at UOP. I can't really comment on how useful the joint degree is as that I am still in school and don't have first hand experience about job searching, however I can definitely say that it doesn't hurt. I really like the MBA classes here and I feel like I learned a lot of useful information, things that are applicable to "real" life, not like many of classes I took in undergrad. Even if you end up working strictly retail, it's good to know finance and investment stuff to set up things for the future. (what to do with the pennies you have left after paying off loans). The Faculty is great and I think they genuinely care about you. One drawback though about the program right now is that the two schools are more or less separated right now, that is, you're basically a MBA student the first year, then a pharm student the 2nd-4th year. They're bringing a heath chair into the business school to develop more integration between the schools so that should get better. As for the application process, I can tell you that other than Econ, I did not take a single business class in undergrad, however I somehow did miraculously well on the GMAT. I dunno what to say about that except that I know the criteria for the MBA program is getting harder each year since the MBA program here is getter better and better rankings ever since they got the new Dean. Well, i hope what i said helped. LATERS!

I can only address the 1st point in the aspect of usefulness.

The prime importance, IMO, is if you intend to operate your own business. Most independently owned businesses fail because of a lack of understanding about just what is necessary to run a successful business: a plan, accounting, economics (macro and micro), organizational skills, statistics, etc. You learn all of this as part of an MBA, and as CemLabSucks puts it you also learn a whole bunch of stuff that applies to real life (for example: 1)just how panicked is the Fed to have cut as much interest from the prime rate in such a short period of time, 2)is your IRS rebate check [and everyone else's] really going to save the economy or are the politicians just buying votes in an election year, 3)just understanding the concept of sunk costs can make all the difference in your decision making process)
