Photos for secondaries

Hey just a quick question. Some schools ask for a photo on their secondary applications and I was wondering, for the schools that have physical secondaries I need to mail back, should I just take a passport size photo and just tape it over the blank box provided on the application? Should I just wear a shirt and tie?

would just a regular button down be okay? I have a photo that's pretty zoomed in that covers most of my face, but you can see the collar of the button down.
