I am curious to see which route other people have chosen.I am applying to U.F.'s 2011 PharmD. program. I am already signed up for Physics with Calc. for the fall but I am wondering if it's really even important to go that route. I know it's not required but will it help get me into pharm. school? Will it help my understanding of physics that much more? If you don't mind me asking, what did everyone else choose?

Thanks everyone! CONGRATES TO EVERYONE WHO STARTS THIS FALL!!!!!!!! 🙂

taking phy2053 and 2054 is fine. pharmacy doesnt even deal with physics anyway

If your school didn't specify, then I think either one will fulfill the requirement. If you like physics and calculus, take it. Otherwise, stay with the algebra one, it will make your life easier. I was an engineering major when I was freshman, so I took calculus based physics, it was really hard.

I am accepted for fall 2010 at UFCOP-Orlando! I would advise you NOT to take physics with calculus. According to the people there is not weighed differently than physics with algebra, and for all the extra time and effort it is not worth it!😱

I did well and understand basic physics concepts after the physics with algebra course. I don't think taking the one with calculus is necessary to understand physics unless you plan on going into some form of engineering.

My school offers only cal based physics because it is Tech.
I am not sure why you don't choose algebra based physics if you can.
Cal based physics is one of the hard courses in Tech and even people in Tech are facing hard time on it.
It is not impossible to get good grade on cal based physics but you have to spend a lot of time on it.
If I could choose to take algebra based physics, I would choose it and spend more time on biology or chemistry courses than physics.

That's like asking if you would like a bandage on your cut, or salt rubbed into it. Algebra all the way. You'll have harder things to focus on in school, keep it simple when you can.

I got into UF and I took physics w/out calc. You do not need the calc.

I thought we would have had to take the physics with calc, so I signed up for that class, then I read the syllabus for the algebra based physics and the description said for Pre-Med, Pre-Dental, and PRE-PHARMACY majors. So I switched into that one immediately.

Take algebra based physics. Period. Calc based is for engineering track students and will KILL you unless you're either really interested or amazing with numbers.

If you're unsure, look at the requirements of the schools you are interested in. But I have to say, I can't think of any pharmacy school that requires calc based physics.

If you love math and physics, then do calc. 🙂

Considering that I'm not even sure what calculus actually is I'll be taking algebra-based physics. 😀

If you love math and hate physics, take calculus based physics, too. That was my reasoning. At least you'll enjoy the calculus part : )

See and I had different reasoning, I love math and I didn't want to let a physics class (or two since I had to take both) destroy that feeling!

Hm, I see how you thought. But my love for math is insurmountable! 😀

Thanks for the great advice everyone! Physics w/Algebra it is!
