do the physics pre-reqs have to be physics-based.

I take it you meant calculus based. The answer generally is no. However if you are curious or have strong interest in physics calculus based is the way to go. They give you the more theoretical treatment of the subject. Algebra based is more about memorizing formulas. Calculus based is deriving those formulas so you get to understand the theory behind them better. Physic majors have to take calculus based physics.

haha yeah, sorry for the typo....does thos differ from med school? before i decided dentistry was for me my pre-health adviser said to take calculus-based.

Not to contradict your pre-health adviser. If you really have doubts about this give dental schools a ring to see what their take on the physics requirement is. It doesn't hurt to take calculus-based as long as you do well in it.
