Is it okay to take Physics the year before you plan on going to dental school? I plan on applying during this application cycle, but I plan on taking Physics I during Fall 08 and Physics II during Spring 09. Will that hurt my chances? I've heard different things about different dental schools and wanted to see what you guys thought...any help would be welcome.

The only other option I have would be to take it over the summer.

I'm in the same boat as you. I have completed all my other prerequisites except physics. I contacted some schools and they said it's fine as long as I complete physics the summer before matriculation. Hope that helps!

Of all the classes I was quized about in interviews, physics never came up. It's really kind of a silly prereq considering there's no physics in dental school. But then there's not much/any Ochem either. Don't worry about your situation. Adcoms won't diregard you b/c they're concerned you don't know how to calculate how far an object travels through the air at a speed of x.

Some schools will not accpet you until you have already completed all your prereqs. I didnt this was true either until UMDNJ told me this explicitly in regard to physics.

I am sure they won't make any assumptions (as in you wouldn't succeed in the class), but they do the "provisional" acceptance, so you must finish it before you grad or they have a reason to reject you if they want.

I wouldn't worry about it. From what I understand this is very common.
I'm also applying this cycle and won't be taking physics until next school year.

My school provides a really rough outline for pre-dental course planning, and they suggest taking physics as a senior (because it's not on the DAT).
