PI asked me to write my letter of recommendation draft... HELP!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
write the good stuff about yourself on the letter. Don't try to praise yourself to an excessive degree. As he said, he will fill in the blanks, so you really have no problem. And yes, include the fact that you have overcome significant obstacles. This should not come from a pitiful side, but one that shows a sign of ability. I only hoped I helped.
Good luck.

I think this is pretty standard. I've heard of a few other PIs doing the same. My boss is notoriously bad with what he considers little details, (for example a change in my major) and with that in mind, it's not a shabby idea. Just write in the same way you would write it for someone else you really believe in. Your advisor will no doubt personalize it to her/his heart's content.

I know I'm a bit late with this, but here goes anyways. This happened to me as well. If you want to see what I gave my recommender to go on, contact me. I would be happy to share that as a template for you or discuss this with you in more detail.

Contact me by PM, AIM (Neuronix2), or e-mail ([email protected]).

Good luck!
