Is the UMDNJ-RWJ program in New Brunswick the same with Piscataway? Anyone out there who can give some feedback about the interview day? The program’s website isn’t exactly complete. From last year’s posts it seems there were 5 interviews, but no presentation or overall description of the program. Someone who interviewed at one of the UMDNJ programs last year (I think it was either Newark or Camden), told me that interviewers pimped the heck out of him. From the people who interviewed at New Brunswick this year, can anyone PLEASE tell me if you got pimped? I would really appreciate your feedback so I can at least be mentally prepared to be ripped apart on my interview day. Thanks!

no hotel reservation so i fended for myself. stayed in a ghetto motel with someone pounding on my door at 3 a.m. (apparently i was supposed to be selling crack, but you know, i left it all at home that night).

showed up for a saturday interview (i am giving them that.. maybe the weekday was more organized).

no formal welcome or presentation regarding the program. no slides, no handouts or pamphlets, information sheets, or anything... just name tags. nice breakfast buffet while some senior residents answered some questions.

immediately divided into two groups (the usual tour group vs. interview group). i interviewed with about 5 faculty. some were pleasant, others simply rude. one was more than rude...sort of a jerk.

tour was standard fare. seems like a decent enough place to train. i don't remember details because after the tour there was nothing else to do so i left. left emptyhanded... no information about the program, never signed a sheet saying i was there and policies were explained to us (i thought this was standard acgme protocol). nothing.

i felt if they did so little to inform me about the program that i wouldn't bother ranking them. not the attitude i was looking for, and central NJ is not *that* great. i had better expectations and hope for everyone's benefit that the interview day is different this year.

oh.. i don't remember getting pimped specifically... but honestly i put this interview behind me the moment i hit the parking lot.

I went to both UMDNJ - New Jersey Medical School and UMDNJ - Robert Wood Johnson in New Brunswich. I did not get pimped at either place. Dr. Davidson gave a nice presentation about the program which was followed by 2 separate interviews with facaulty members at NJMS. Both interviewers were very laid back.

UMDNJ - Robert Wood Johnson was very disorganized. The interview was on a Saturday. I got there 30 minutes ahead of the scheduled time and all the doors were locked. So I wandered around in the cold (temp 30's) for 30 minutes before I found a resident who had access to the place. There was no formal introduction about the program. The program director did say a few words before the interviews started but it was not exactly an introduction. Then, we had 4 separate interviews each and a tour. The interviewers might be different on different dates. The 4 interviewers that I had were okay. One of them had no facial expression but I wouldn't call her rude. She just didn't smile at all during the interview. Robert wood seems to have nicer facilities but in terms of training, I think both places are quite comparable.

One noted difference is I didn't see any DO's or FMG's at NJMS but there are quite a few FMG's and DO's at Robert Wood.
