You will first have to do your DDS and then go into specialization. There speciality programs, but I dont think you can jump to that directly since they do no recognise your underrad dental degree. I dont know your nationality and other hting slike that so You can call particular schools to find out if anybody offers a diploma in Oral surgery.

Hello Everybody
I am a foreign graduated Maxillofacial surgeon. What should I do for continuing my education in subspecialty fields in US?

Hi,
Welcome to the world of USA Dentistry. If u want to be a Oral and Maxillo facial surgeon, for a 6-7 yr program resident, u have to go for DDS first and they u have to try reallly hard to get in to MD. I am pretty sure on this as it is not easy to get in to OMFS double degree i.e., MD, MS. The problem i found out in my research is that, even the dental school accepts u as a resident, the medical school will have some problem in admitting you as u dont have so called american undergrad degree. But if u can take MCAT and show that u r a solid candidate, then u can get it, but it is not impossible . I know a person who got in to 6-7 years specialty, but if u want to do 4 year program, it is not as hard as 6-7 year program. So if u want a 4 yeard degree, then u can get it if u can maintain all the grades and good NDBE scores. coming to the speicialties, IT IS NOT WHAT YOU KNOW, IT IS WHO YOU KNOW
👍 👍 👍
I know some things what i said might be wrong, but u can do ur own research and find out.

All the best

International

Research which schools offer that subspecialty you're interested in and contact them directly and inquiry about their requirements. It's the safest way to go about it.

if im not mistaken harvard has a progrmame where the accept international trained students . i think they have to clear their boards.
but please check the latest info cause my sources are about 2 yrs old.

Dear toothie
Would you please to give me some more information about that program? Do you have any address about it?
Thanks to you and to all other friends for your kindness

Hey rajkang

just a lill nte; I was not trying to DISCOURAGE him. I tried to give some information that I could. If you read my post carefully till the end, I have tried to convey that each case is different, so call the particular schools and talk to them.
I belive we are here to help each other postively, share information and not discourage anybody. I dont know of anybody on this site trying to discourage anyone else.
Probably you misunderstood what I was saying, but I had to clearify. I am not really 😡 at you . I was in a great hurry that day, yet I choose to reply coz nobody had replied to his post.

You can directly do specilaization. I know some students in BU who are doing specializaton directly and they had dental degree from India. Don't trust the discouraging information that you get in such forums. Better go to dental schools website or call them directly.
