Hi guys,
I'm almost done with my bachelors degree in biology and was thinking of applying to OT school around the northeast. BUT my gpa is really low, overall my cumulative is about 2.7. I plan to take a gap year before applying what should I do to get my gpa up after receiving my diploma. I got some low grades in chem and physics, should I retake those courses? Or should I just take upper biology courses? Overall, I need to raise my undergrad gpa! What should I do!

Check out all the pre requisites for programs you want to attend and retake those classes if necessary. Although programs don't just look at grades the do require a minimum GPA

Hi! I’m also seeking advice. My pre-req GPA is about 3.8, but my overall GPA is below 3.0 due to poor grades in bio, chem, physics during my first two years as undergraduate. Should I bother retaking those classes or should I take upper-level classes instead? I’ve already completed all of my pre-requisites.. :/

There are a lot of programs that just look at your GPA for the past 60/90 credits so hopefully that results in your GPA rising. If you decide to apply to schools that only look at the last x amount of credits, I suggest padding your GPA with interesting yet applicable courses (child development, geriatric psychology, skills courses such as yoga for disabled, health policy, ect.) You can highlight courses such as these in your essay about how your past experiences will help you reach your goals as an occupational therapist!

Be careful with OTCAS schools. They average retaken grades for GPA’s. So if you got an F in bio, when you retake it and make that hard earned A, OTCAS averages it to a C. If you have decent grades there, I would start taking new classes, as they would count more for your overall GPA.

I think I got a C in chemistry and D in physics. Should I not bother to retake it at all? What classes should I take instead...they don't have much at community colleges, I could take microbiology, some psych classes.

I would retake those cause a lot of programs look at the science pre-reqs as a separate category. However non pre-reqs, I would just take new classes beneficial to OT. Biomechanics, all the psych classes, sociology, or even creative classes in arts
