If anyone is able to help me with some questions I have been having about Podiatry School I would greatly appreciate it.

Generally how long will it take till I will graduate?

Will I become an intern or a resident first? and will I get paid doing either? if so what do we usually make on an average?

Now I hear I could go from hospital to hospital from 1 - 2 months at a time? Is this residency and how is the pay figured? Does the hospitals I am at determine that or does that have anything to do with the schools?

These are just a few questions that have been going through my head that I can't seem to get a straight answer anywhere.

Thanks!

Im no Podiatry Expert, but I do know when SDN'ers seem to ignoring a post...

Sorry I have no clue why, maybe post it as a different post, or try to trick them into feeling obligated to post back..

You guys did just post today. I'm just a pre-pod, what you are asking is for a podiatry student to answer (more experience in the field). All the podiatry students are IN school right now. I'm in undergrad and in between classes right now. So please just be patient, there are plenty of students in pod school that will be more than willing to answer your questions, just have to wait until they are out of class.

Like I said, I'm just prepod, but since you are being so impatient, i'll try to answer the best I can.

Podiatry school is 4 years long. The residency questions i really dont have a great answer, so just wait. Look at other posts and see. ALSO, do not post twice, it wont help or be quicker. And you really only have to post in one of the 3 pod forums, not in all of them.
GOOD LUCK with everything you are doing.

Alright people, at least wait until we get home. Not everyone lives on SDN.

It will take you 4 years to graduate from school followed by 2-3 years of residency

Will I become an intern or a resident first? and will I get paid doing either? if so what do we usually make on an average? Your 3rd and 4th years consist of clinical rotations where you will be an intern or extern (however you want to call it). Whether or not you spend this much time in clinics/hospitals around the school or at residency programs is up to the school you attend. It varies. You will not get paid as an extern but you will in residency. Residency salaries vary but are around 40-45K yr. Pay is determined completely by the residency program. Once you graduate from school, you are no longer affiliated with them.

I hope this answers some of your questions. Remember, there arent 100,000 pre-pods who frequent this forum daily like there are in the pre-allo forums. So just be a little patient and you questions will be answered. Also, please only post in one forum. Thanks. Good luck.

since there are still states that dont require residencies, do people ever skip residency and just do gp?

by gp do you mean generalpractice?

and the only state left that does not require residency is Hawaii I think. so unless you want to cut nails and shave calluses and prescribe orthotics to people who wear sandals you'll need a residency.

1979 was the last year to graduate and not need a residency in NY.
